Letter from Division Director
“Leave all the afternoon for exercise and recreation, which are as necessary as reading. I will rather say more necessary
because health is worth more than learning.”
—Thomas Jefferson
I certainly agree with Thomas Jefferson on the value of health as well as the vital role recreation plays in attaining and maintaining good health. Early in my career I worked as
a recreation leader and as a physical education teacher and coach and I took pride in making a healthy difference in people’s lives. I feel I still do today in my current role as a
publisher of resources that focus on activity and health. But as a publisher I also value reading and learning, which brings me to the terrific line-up of resources you’ll find in this
catalog.
We’re especially proud of our expanding line of textbooks. Highlights this year include Applied Research and Evaluation Methods in Recreation, which makes this often
overwhelming topic accessible and relatable by linking the concepts directly to the field, and Inclusive Recreation, a book that will help students learn to provide services to
diverse people of all ages and abilities.
Professionals in the field will find resources that will aid them in serving everyone in the community, from young to old. Leisure Programming for Baby Boomers offers
creative programming ideas for the millions of adults reaching retirement age. With Let’s Play, you can make sure that no kids are left on the sidelines by teaching them
the physical and social skills they need to make friends and be part of the action at the playground. And Team-Building Activities for the Digital Age shows you how to
reach out and engage teens and young adults using the technology they love. Outdoor professionals will learn to make the freedom and renewal of paddling available to people
of all abilities with Canoeing and Kayaking for People With Disabilities.
Whether you’re a professor, park and recreation professional, outdoor or adventure educator, youth leader, or coach – working in private industry or the municipal sector
– you’ll find resources that will help you in this catalog.
