In an old Family Bible in the possession <strong>of</strong> Glenda Lee Richardson(Nee Minshew) <strong>of</strong> Bartow, Fla.<br />

handed down from W.T. and Eliza Matilda through C.E. Holcomb to Myrtice Minshew (Nee Holcomb)<br />

Aunt Buenas' name is noted as Noba Bunivistia Holcomb. At some time between June 1940 and June<br />

1941 Buena Vista Holcomb married a man by the name <strong>of</strong> Taylor. Given name not known. Buena was<br />

fifty years <strong>of</strong> age at the time. Buena had a difficult time growing up. Her mother, Eliza Matilda, died in<br />

1895 when Buena was 4 Years <strong>of</strong> age. At that time she was handed up to Charles Edward Holcomb, an<br />

older brother who was married and settled in Key, Alabama, in his wagon and told him that he now had<br />

the responsibility <strong>of</strong> taking care <strong>of</strong> Buena. She stayed with C.E. Edwards until sometime after 1912<br />

when she went to live with her eldest brother JHJ Holcomb who had settled in Walters , Oklahoma. She<br />

remained with JHJ until he committed suicide on October 9, 1930. From that time she went to live with<br />

her Brother, Grover Cleveland Holcomb in Gunter , Texas. She remained with Grover until he<br />

voluntarily placed himself in the Veterans Hospital in Waco, Texas for what was known as "shell shock"<br />

in those days after WWl. At some point between June 1940 and June 1941 Buena married a man by the<br />

Surname <strong>of</strong> Taylor. <strong>The</strong>y moved to Washington D.C. where Buena worked in the Pentagon for the<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> the Army until her retirement from Civil Service. Her marriage did not last long and<br />

upon her retirement from civil service she moved to Birmingham, Alabama, probably to be close to<br />

relatives. She did not remain there long and moved to Florida to live with Myrtice Menshew, a daughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> Charles Edward Holcomb with whom Buena had grown up with. <strong>The</strong>y later bought a house in<br />

Shannon, Georgia and lived there until they both passed away. Buena passed away in April 1981. She<br />

is buried in Rome, Georgia.<br />

Buena Vista Holcomb applied for her Social Security Number on September 12, 1943 while living in<br />

Lawton, Oklahoma. At the time she was working for Earl Zorger <strong>of</strong> Earl's Drug Store in Lawton,<br />

Oklahoma. She was married at the time to Roy Taylor. She listed as her father, <strong>William</strong> Taylor<br />

Holcomb and as her mother, Mathilda Garrett. She listed Key, Cherokee County, Alabama as her place<br />

<strong>of</strong> birth.<br />

Notes for Roy Taylor:<br />

Roy Taylor was a traveling salesman and called on Uncle Grover at his Drugstore in Gunther, Texas.<br />

Met and married Aunt Buena at some time between Mar 25, 1940 and April, 1941. Marriage lasted only<br />

one year. Have heard from family members that after her divorce , Aunt Buena never wanted to talk<br />

about him or hear his name. According to family members Roy Taylor was not a faithful husband.<br />

Ladonnia, Texas).<br />

Notes for Otis Holcomb:<br />

Ottis Lee was about 9 years <strong>of</strong> age when his father , W.T. moved his family to Texas in 1903. He died in<br />

or around Ladonia , Texas when he was 12 to 16 years <strong>of</strong> age <strong>of</strong> diabetes complications.<br />

145 i. Lola May 24 Holcomb, born July 23, 1897 in Cherokee County Alabama 6 ; died November 1987 in<br />

Marietta, Georgia 6 . She married Leroy L. Marx; born November 11, 1895 7 ; died June 1984 in Marietta<br />

, Ceorgia 7 .<br />

Notes for Lola May Holcomb:<br />

Lola May was born in Cherokee County, Alabama in July 1897. In either 1897 or 1898 the family<br />

moved to the Sand Mountain area <strong>of</strong> DeKalb County , Alabama. <strong>The</strong>y stayed there until 1903 then<br />

moved to Texas. <strong>The</strong>y took a train to Honey Grove , Texas and thence to Ladonia, Texas where her<br />

father took a job as manager <strong>of</strong> a large cotton farm. Her brother, Benjamin Wyatt Holcomb, said that<br />

Lola had always said that as soon as she was eighteen years <strong>of</strong> age she was leaving East Texas and<br />

returning to the East. When she was eighteen she did leave, went to Washington D. C. , lived with the<br />

half sister <strong>of</strong> her maternal Grandmother, Esther Strickland, in Arlington, Virginia. She worked for a<br />

Coal and Power company in that area, met one <strong>of</strong> the salesmen <strong>of</strong> that company, L. L. Marx, and<br />

married him. Roy was transferred or went to Atlanta, Georgia, and Lola May was back in Georgia<br />

where she had always wanted to be. She and Roy stayed in Atlanta for the remainder <strong>of</strong> their lives.<br />
