Texas. From there to Sinop, Turkey on an unaccompied tour and from there back to Rota, Spain. He
remained in Spain for several years and was then transferred to the National Security Activity where
he remained until his death. James Allen Holcomb, beloved son of Virginia and B.J. Holcomb and
husband of Margarite, Father of Penelope Anne and Michael James, passed away at 3:30 AM on the
25th of August, 1996 in the Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Va. Dr. Goldberg was the attending
physician. Jimmy came kicking and screaming into this world in Freeport General Hospital in
Freeport, Long Island, New York on the 8th of March, 1950. He was born into a Navy Family and
lived his entire life surrounded by his immediate Navy Family and the wider Navy Family he
encountered as he grew older. He was raised by his Mother and Father and the Navy. Jimmy
attended school in such diverse places as the Phillipines, Hawaii, California, New York, England,
Norfolk and the Panama, C.Z. . It was difficult to make and maintain permanent friends but he has
friends literally all over the world. Jimmy graduated from Granby High School in Norfolk, Virginia
and went on to graduate from Virginia Weslyan in 1972. He was sworn into the Navy on January 10,
1974 by his father and was once again in the Navy but this time as an adult. His adult career in the
Navy was a replica of his youth. He served on Carriers, Destroyers and Submarines. Jimmy loved his
family and worked hard to ensure they stayed a family despite the many long , lonely separations
caused by his duties to country and Navy. He was advanced to Chief Petty Officer and was striving
for advancement to Senior Chief Petty Officer but it was not to be. Death took Jimmy on the 25th of
August, 1996 and an untimely death it was at the age of 46. Jimmy lived his life as a loving Son, A
loving Husband and a loving Father. He lived his life with absolute and total regard in the belief of
Duty, Honor, Family and Country. He was our good, faithful and true Son and we loved him. ( Bill
