Integrating Net2 with an intruder alarm system
Paxton Access
Overview
Net2 can monitor whether the intruder alarm is armed or disarmed. If the alarm is armed, the Net2
will only allow access to users who have the authority to disarm the system. All other users will be
denied access, regardless of their normal access rights.
02/05/2007
When allowing the first authorised access, Net2 will send a signal to disarm the alarm automatically.
If this is successful the door is opened and standard access rights for all users are then allowed.
NOTE: To allow the integration to work, the intruder alarm panel must be able to accept a
momentary keyswitch input to arm and disarm the system and there must be an output that
provides a signal when the alarm is armed.
Configuring Net2 to allow alarm integration
To activate the Net2 alarm integration software the correct check box must be ticked on the features
tab in the Net2 server configuration utility.
Configuring a door to control the intruder alarm
To enable alarm integration at a specific door, select the ACU, go to the intruder alarm tab and check
the tick box. You must then define the following options:
Define if the set/unset indication from the intruder alarm is an open or closed loop
Specify the time period for which the Net2 relay contacts need to close to change
the intruder alarm state (0.1 to 10 seconds)
Open the door on the third attempt even if the alarm cannot be disarmed by Net2
V4
Set the time period for the confirmation button - if fitted. (up to 120 secs)
Specify an alternative reader operating mode when the alarm is active - if required
Allowing users to control the alarm system
Once intruder alarm software is installed, the following tick box appears in each user record. This
must be ticked to give the user the authority to set/unset the alarm.
Disarming the alarm
If the alarm is armed and an authorised user presents their card to the IN reader.
The reader will acknowledge the card but the amber and red LED’s will flash to indicate
that the alarm is set
The green LED will flash when the intruder alarm has been disarmed by Net2
The door will open in the normal way
Net2
The reader will now work as normal for all users until the alarm is armed
Arming the alarm
There are 3 methods that can be used to arm the system. (To conform to DD243 regulations
method 2 should be used.)
1) Using proximity reader(s) and one ACU - When an authorised user presents their card to the
designated reader, they are given a user specified time period to press a button installed for the
purpose of confirming that the alarm is to be armed. Once pressed the intruder alarm will arm
itself. If the button is not pressed the door will be released in the normal way, leaving the alarm
status unchanged.
NOTE: You can use two readers with this setup (Read In & Read Out) as per normal access control.
The push button is still required to confirm the alarm set request.
2) Using two readers and two ACUs - One ACU is used for normal building access and to unset the
alarm. A second ACU is dedicated to the intruder alarm and is used to arm the system.
Only authorised alarm users should be given access rights for the reader used for setting the alarm
and so no confirmation button is required.
This method should be used to ensure compliance with DD243.
3) Using a keypad and ACU - The * key on the keypad can be used instead of fitting a
confirmation push button. To set the alarm the authorised user first presses the * key
and will then be given 7 seconds to enter their PIN arming the system. The next valid
PIN from an authorised user will attempt to unset the alarm in the normal way.
Important Notes
Relay 2 is used to set/unset the alarm and so the relay 2 toggle option under Reader action is
greyed out. Any ACU that is used for alarm integration must have the lock release connected to
relay 1; relay 2 cannot be used to toggle.
If the door on the ACU is normaly held open with a timezone, the ACU will not unlock the door
until the intruder alarm has been disarmed.
