1. For added safety in keeping hands out from under the PRESSHEAD during operation, a second "PUSH-TO-
OPERATE" airvalve is recommended on the cylinder. The air supply hose connects to this valve f irst, then continues
to the "up-and-down" valve that operates the cylinder. Both hands are required to operate these two valves at the
same time, th us helping protect and prevent a hand or f ingers f rom being accidently caught under or by the presshead
during operation.
Also, SPEED CONTROL devices can be used with the valves and cylinder to reg ulate the air f low and provide steady,
smooth movement of the presshead.
Obtain these items from the same suppliers who sell the cylinders and valves.
3. To make a "f irm" bale, the air pressure must be applied to the cylinderand presshead f or5 to 10 seconds or longer,
depend ing on the tobacco, to ensure f ull compression, proper bale density, and height. Be sure the controls maintain
the pressure and compressive force on the bale during the tying process.
4. Use an air compressor capable of supplying 90-100 psi to cylinder. Generally, for farm uses, a 314 or 1 Hp electric motor
with single or twin-cylinder compressor and 12 or 20 gallon tank and proper controls is adequate. Use a pressure
regulator to set the pressure between 60 and 90 psi depending on tobacco moisture content and quality to make a proper
bale but not too tight to cause excess weight and possible damage.
