Coil-over-shock Double-wishbone
Front Suspension
F-150
Performance/Handling
• Provides steering stiffness and roll damping, allowing
for precise suspension tuning, steering response and
vehicle control
• Stamped-steel lower control arms for
added strength
• Specially designed control arm bushings provide
lateral stiffness (for side-to-side forces), yet are tuned
soft for response to road impacts (front-to-back
forces), providing a smooth ride without increased sideto-side
“skate”
• Bushings attached to the front stabilizer bar allow
for crisp steering response while maintaining a
smooth ride
Optimized Hotchkiss Rear Suspension
• Two-stage rear leaf springs are 64.5" long to help
provide better lateral compliance and refined rear
axle steering characteristics
• 3"-wide rear springs provide excellent cornering and
control when towing
• Also contributing to the performance of the rear
suspension is a wide track for a confident, level stance
Outboard Rear Shock Absorbers
• Shock absorbers are located outside of the frame
rails to reduce body lean and provide excellent
cornering control
• Reduce overall axle motion, which can occur on
washboard surfaces like dirt roads
Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS)
with Drift Control
• EPAS is a sophisticated electric speed-sensitive
steering assist system
– Offers light, responsive steering feel around town
and while parking
– At higher speeds, EPAS delivers less steering assist
for more confident control
• EPAS replaces the hydraulic gear system that pulled
power (and efficiency) from the engine via a belt
• Helps improve fuel economy and eliminate hydraulic
noises common with hydraulic systems
• Standard with the 3.7L V6, 5.0L V8 and EcoBoost
3.5L V6 engines
Chassis cont’d
Drift Control
• An automatic system that uses EPAS to help
continuously correct for road irregularities and
improve overall steering feel
• System is continually “learning” and adapting to
steering conditions and compensates for changes
that can cause the vehicle to pull left or right
– Assists the steering effort to help the driver
maintain a straighter path
– Helps driver avoid unwanted lane changes (or drift)
• Reduces steering effort required when driving on
crowned roads or in heavy side winds
Speed-sensitive Rack-and-pinion
Steering — Hydraulic
• Rack-and-pinion design is engineered to provide
low turning effort, good returnability and handling
characteristics
• Low-speed steering maneuvers are made easier with
a higher level of steering assist
• Road feel is improved at higher speeds with a
reduced level of steering assist
• Standard, and only included on models equipped
with the 6.2L V8 engine
Four-wheel Disc Brakes
• Front calipers use 2.125" diameter pistons for
excellent effectiveness and brake pedal feel
• Large vented rotors on all four wheels for excellent
fade resistance and consistent braking performance
• Brake pads are made of high-friction non-asbestos
organic lining material that helps provide outstanding
stopping power
• Combined with large rotors, the result is confident
braking performance in stop-and-go driving or
while towing
• Includes standard four-wheel Anti-lock Braking
System (ABS) for responsive, confident stops
Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
• Automatically balances the front-to-rear
brakeforce distribution to reduce the tendency
for rear-wheel lockup
• Optimizes braking performance according to vehicle
load of passengers, cargo and/or payload
