2011 F-150 received the following ratings in each of the
tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway
Safety (IIHS).
Frontal Offset Test
• Vehicle impacts a fixed barrier at 40 mph. Only
40 percent of the vehicle’s front surface makes
contact with the barrier
Side Impact Test
• A 3300-lb. barrier moving at 31 mph strikes the side
of a stationary vehicle
Roof Strength Test
• A metal plate is pushed against the corner of the
vehicle roof at constant speed
• The maximum force sustained by the roof before 5" of
crush is measured, and then compared to the vehicle
weight to determine a strength-to-weight ratio
Rear Impact Test
• Vehicle’s front seat is mounted on a platform which is
accelerated forward
• This simulates the stationary vehicle being hit from
behind and tests for whiplash injury
