She was taken to the hospital the night before after she was found at Tamarack Avenue and Cedar Street in Burney with open sores on her chest. • • • • • • • Western International representatives reported Friday morning repossessing a pickup on Main Street in Fall River Mills where the owner was unaware. • • • • • • • A business burglary was reported Friday morning at the 43700 area of Highway 299 in McArthur. • • • • • • • A landlord and tenant dispute was reported Friday at 10:23 a.m. at the 25100 area of Big Bend Road. • • • • • • • A Burney woman called Friday saying she was told to report to the Burney sheriff’s substation and contact a Det. Bailey. Since there is no Det. Bailey in Burney, it appeared she was the victim of a telephone scam. • • • • • • • A custody dispute was reported Friday at 2:24 p.m. at the 20400 block of Plumas Street in Burney. • • • • • • • A father reported his 21-year-old daughter missing Friday evening after she had car trouble on her way to Big Bend. He called back less than three hours later to say he had located her at a friend’s house. • • • • • • • A verbal disturbance between two former roommates was reported Friday at 8:31 p.m. at the 20500 block of Hudson Street in Burney. • • • • • • • A verbal disturbance was reported Friday at 9:26 p.m. at Cottonwood Street and Highway 299 in Johnson Park. • • • • • • • A Montgomery Creek man was identified as having taken three large bags of dog food from Safeway in Burney without paying Friday night. • • • • • • • A caller reported Thursday at 12:40 a.m. that he had just gotten off the telephone with a female who made statements she was going to kill herself. He said the two had an argument earlier that day and felt it would be better if deputies checked on her. Deputies learned there was a dispute between the two, the suicide threat wasn’t true and that the caller was more interested to learn if the female’s ex-boyfriend was there. The caller was counseled by deputies about using the sheriff’s office regarding domestic situations. • • • • • • • A gas line to a pickup was cut and gasoline stolen from the 30300 area of Jackson Lane in Montgomery Creek Thursday. • • • • • • • A Johnson Park caller reported Thursday finding a gas can next to her vehicle parked at the 21600 block of Saint Helena Street. She wasn’t sure whether someone was trying to steal gas. • • • • • • • An Oak Street caller in Burney reported Thursday at 2:29 p.m. a man in his late 20s vandalized garbage cans and when the caller confronted him, the man punched the caller’s dog. • • • • • • • A McArthur woman reported Thursday being harassed by a subject who is the father of their child. • • • • • • • Two vehicles in the pilots’ parking lot at the Fall River airport were found by the volunteer citizens patrol with their gas caps removed Thursday night. It wasn’t known whether any fuel had been taken. • • • • • • • A Shingletown caller reported June 6 he believed his wife was being murdered and/or sacrificed and felt he was crazy for saying so. He told deputies, if someone would come and take him away, he’ll just forget about it. • • • • • • • A caller reported June 6 at 2:12 p.m. his wife’s 32-yearold boyfriend was on meth and tried to stab him with two screwdrivers. The address was redacted on the logbook, however, a Burney deputy responded to the Cal Fire request for assistance. • • • • • • • A Johnson Park woman reported June 6 at 5:54 p.m. a male neighbor keeps walking in her yard and threatening her. The man, however, said the woman grabbed his headphones off his head and broke them. cody william nash Nephew held in slaying -From Page 1 charges of murder and attempted murder. He was to be arraigned Tuesday in Shasta County Superior Court. Many of the staff within the Big Valley School District today worked with Bob Watson. “He was a great guy to work with,” said Teresa Armstrong, who was the district secretary at the time Watson was interim superintendent. He was hired to replace Supt. Mark Evans who died in the Spring of 2007 and assisted in the hiring of the next superintendent, Richard Rhodes, in July 2008. Prior to his nearly oneyear stint as superintendent, Watson had 25 years experience as a public school administrator. He was superintendent of the Grant Elementary School District in Redding from 1997-2005. He started his education career as a teacher in Sebastapol in 1973. “Big Valley needed a strong personality (with the sudden vacancy created by Evans’ death),” said Armstrong, and Watson exemplified that. The Watsons rented a home in Fall River Valley where Candice would stay three or four days per week before returning to their Redding residence. Bob Watson wanted to be actively involved in the community and joined the Big Valley Lions Club. Armstrong had equally nice things to say about Candice whom she worked with at an eighth grade bazaar. “She helped me put a table together and we both had a great time,” Armstrong said. The BES principal and the four students in the photo are from left, Principal Marcy Schmidt and students Chelsea Davis, Zachary Thompson, Eli Urlie, and Devin Murray. The honor means that these four students have never received less than an A in every class they’ve taken since they started 4th grade, the year that the school district starts giving grades to students. OBITUARIES Iris McCormick Forest Service, 55 Iris passed away Monday, May 28th, at Mercy Medical Center in Redding surrounded by her family after a battle with cancer. Iris was born in 1956 in Newport, Oregon, to Don Pearson and Patricia Hyatt. In 1977, Iris married John McCormick and had two daughters, Jacquie and Jessica. In 1985, Iris and her daughters moved to Burney and in 1988 she had her son Gary. Iris worked for the U.S. Forest Service for almost 20 years; she was very passionate about her job and kept working until two weeks before her passing. Iris loved the outdoors and was always taking her kids and grandkids to new places around our area that we had never explored before. Iris leaves behind her parents Don and Lee Pearson and Patricia Hyatt, children Jacquie and Ray Stewart, Jessica McCormick, Gary Wright, her grandkids Nathan, Nicholas, and Jackson Glazzard, Danika Byrd, and Rhyann McCormick, brothers and sisters-in-law Bob and Glenda Pearson, Brian and Lorrie Pearson, Don and Laura Davis, Tom and Pam Pearson, John Pearson, John Penny, sisters and brother-in-law Cathy and Bob Myers, Sandra Billings, Ginny Leija, and many nieces and nephews. Iris will be greatly missed by all who knew her. THE INTERMOUNTAIN NEWS • JUNE 13, 2012 • PAGE 3 Burney woman arrested for allegedly having sex with 15-year-old On June 6 at 6:30 a.m., deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office in Burney received information of a 24-year-old woman, later determined to be Shell Harper, having sexual intercourse with a 15-yearold victim, said Det. John Meeker. After conducting interviews with both the victim and Harper, it was determined the two were having a sexual relationship, Meeker said. Harper was arrested and transported to the Shasta County Jail where she was booked and later released.
