The Dispensary now offers even more
The Dispensary in Bracebridge has not only expanded
into a new location, but also has the expertise of the
Remedy’s Rx group to draw upon.
Pharmacist owner Darl Dillabough explains the drug
store joined the Remedy’s Rx group of independent
pharmacists and is able to take advantage of their
expertise in merchandising, design and is part of their
buying group.
Joining Remedy’s Rx made sense to Dillabough
because it offers support but still allows The Dispensary
to operate independently and make decisions that
work for the Bracebridge and Muskoka community.
“They give us suggestions, says Dillabough. “Then
we work with that but find our own niche.”
By growing to 3,000 sq. ft. from its previous 800 sq.
ft. location, The Dispensary will be able to offer even
more.
“We have a larger pharmacy and an expanded line of
over-the-counter products,” Dillabough says.
And if they don’t have something in stock, they can
get it. In fact, they may even be ahead of the curve with
new products because they don’t have to wait for corporate
approval to make a purchase.
For example, some dentists recently recommended a
specific toothpaste and suggested The Dispensary carry
it. At $17.99 a tube, it is something chain stores may
not carry but Dillabough carries it because he sees the
demand from his customers.
Moggach explains that the X-PUR Tooth Revitalizing
Paste is a different option for people wanting to
avoid fluoride and use a different hardener.
“We react to demand instead of trying to create
demand,” she says.
As a special service, The Dispensary, Remedy’s Rx,
will sell the length of bandage a customer needs. “We
will open boxes and measure out what they require,”
says Moggach. “We want to cater to these people. They
don’t need a $20 box of bandage that they will never
use again.”
Dillabough says although it is time-consuming, it is
something they do for their customers. “Some people
can’t afford more. Rather than just throw up their
hands, they can come in each week to purchase what
they need.”
The Dispensary has an extensive supply of wound
care and specialty bandages.
“With an independent pharmacy, we can have direct
accounts with who we want and we can purchase from
anyone,” Moggach says, again stressing that they are
open to customer requests.
Plans are underway for a specialty line of products
for breastfeeding and for new mothers. A Medela breast
pump is an upscale item that a new mom may request.
Aids for daily living, such as braces for tennis elbow,
wrist and ankle braces, canes and crutches are carried at
the new expanded location.
Over-the-counter healthy lifestyle products are also
featured at the new location. “We have expanded vitamins,
mineral and herbal lines,” Dillabough says.
The Dispensary is carrying Canadian Fiberrific products.
This natural source of soluble fiber helps maintain
regularity and is an alternative to conventional pills.
“This is more palatable and easier for people to take,”
says Moggach. “This is a different dosage for people
who don’t like to take pills. Some people are already on
so many pills and the idea of taking another pill is just
too much.” Instead, this product can be sprinkled into
coffee or even cereal and will dissolve.
Dillabough says, “There are a lot of different claims
out there but our products have studies to back them
up.”
The Dispensary has an extensive selection of overthe-counter
products and health items to meet your
every need. “We have cough and cold products, support
stockings,” he says, listing just a few of the many
items in the expanded drug store.
“We have all of the over-the-counter products to go
along with prescriptions or any ailments our customer
may have,” Dillabough says.
