7.C Annual Police Crime and Activities Report [WWN]
Crime in the City of Kerman is up over 2008. There are quite a number of factors at play
here, which are addressed in detail in the report. Most areas are up by only 2 to 3%.
Property crimes are another issue, they are up significantly, burglaries in particular.
Your Police Department is working very hard at thwarting these crimes and we have
made quite a number of arrests. However, those arrested have been released back into
our community in less than 24 hours. Exacerbating all this is the recent California
Department of Corrections decision to release many felons back into our community
without parole supervision.
Chief Newton has prepared a detailed report with graphs and charts which demonstrate
trends and population growth compared to number of crimes, etc. As the graph charts
indicate while the City continues to enjoy a low per capita crime rate, theft and
burglaries have substantial increased over the last two years. Also included in this report
is an update on implementation of our False Alarm Ordinance and the various crime
prevention and enforcement activities of the Police Department.
