This course emphasizes the finer points of the<br />

HVAC industry. In this class students will learn<br />

basic duct work sizing and the fundamentals of gas<br />

heating. Furnace component identification and their<br />

function are emphasized as well as basic HVAC<br />

troubleshooting techniques.<br />

HVAC II<br />

This course emphasizes common installation<br />

practices for HVAC equipment. Students will install<br />

a residential/light commercial A/C system. This<br />

involves learning proper brazing techniques, low<br />

and high voltage wiring, system evacuation and<br />

proper refrigerant charging. The lecture portion of<br />

the course directly coincides with lab experiences<br />

The basic refrigeration system is covered as<br />

well as major refrigeration components and their<br />

functions. Students should bring safety glasses,<br />

tools and testers. (Safety glasses may be purchased<br />

if needed.) Textbook: $55.<br />

Refrigerant Certification Test<br />

Preparation<br />

1 day 3 hrs $35<br />

This class is offered for those who want to take the<br />

Refrigerant Certification Test conducted through<br />

the ESCO Institute Program. Approved by the<br />

Federal EPA, the test covers Section 608 of the<br />

Federal Clean Air Act. Students will prepare for<br />

the following certification types: Type I: Small<br />

Appliance, Type II: High Pressure Systems, Type<br />

III: Low Pressure Systems, and Universal: Types<br />

I, II and III. Preparatory manuals are available at a<br />

cost of $15.<br />

Refrigerant certification is conducted through the<br />

manuals prior to the test and will need a driver’s<br />

license or photo ID to take the exam. Technicians<br />

who have partial certification under another testing<br />

agency but wish to obtain additional certification<br />

must bring proof of their original certification.<br />
