<strong>The</strong> Forty-Niner<br />

<strong>The</strong> Loyal Edmonton Regiment added a new<br />
member to the Regimental Family this year. On<br />
24 January 2012 the Loyal Edmonton Regiment<br />
Cadet Corps, #2961 Behchoko was stood up. <strong>The</strong><br />
town of Behchoko lies driving distance, north of<br />
Yellowknife, NWT. C Company. <strong>The</strong> L Edmn R will<br />
be working closely with this corps to ensure peak<br />
efficiency. Already the corps has participated in<br />
a Northern Region Marksmanship Competition.<br />
Although they did not win this year they have their<br />
eyes set on the prize.<br />
#2850 Grande Prairie completed an extraordinary<br />
training year. <strong>The</strong> highlight of the year for the cadet<br />
corps was a trip to Vimy, France to commemorate<br />
the 75th anniversary of the famous battle in which<br />
Canadians paid so high a price. Another great<br />
honour for the corps was the opportunity for Cadet<br />
Bilodeau to escort the Governor General of Canada<br />
to Beaumont-Hamel National Monument and lay an<br />
official wreath. Of course the corps did spend some<br />
time in Canada. In May the corps organized and<br />
executed a challenging mountain biking expedition<br />
to scenic Jasper Park.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Edmonton based L Edmn R Cadet Corps, #<br />
1809 held a number of motivating and challenging<br />
field training exercises during the past training<br />
year. Starting in October 2011 with a basic<br />
Bivouac exercise their exercises quickly became<br />
complex. In the heart of winter the corps executed<br />
a Cold Weather Challenge exercise and in May a<br />
