In some cases, answers to different questions could be compared. The information obtained this way proved to be important and relevant. The majority of APCER clients estimates that their QMS transition process will be finished by 2002, and estimate that APCER's transition audit could in fact be performed that year. Nevertheless, more than 15% of these organisations had no transition plan defined at this time. During the first semester of 2001, APCER has performed more that 30 ISO 9001:2000 audits (20 of those were transition audits for organisations with ISO 9001/2 or 3:1994 certificates). This supports the fact that APCER estimation for ISO 9001:2000 audits during 2001 is slightly higher than the 8% result of the survey. What's rather difficult to understand is the fact that 23% of the organisations that estimate 2001 to be their transition year have not yet established or initiated a QMS transition plan. Another cross analysis can be performed comparing these results with the validity date of valid certificates issued by APCER in past years. One could expect that organisations waited until the end of the validity of their ISO 9001/2 or 3:1994 certificates before asking for a transition audit. A brief look at the distribution graphic below shows that the majority of the organisations with certificates due in 2001 will in fact ask for their renewal (with validity of 15/ 12/2003). Another conclusion is that many organisation with certificates valid until 2003 will ask for a transition audit during 2002 (and correspondent ISO 9001:2000 certificate if requirements are fulfilled).
