1. Was there a time
when you waited for
God to answer your
prayer? Did he
answer or did you
have to wait? Do you
realize that sometimes
the answer is “No!”?
No one gives a greater gift than to offer friends a place to
rest. That is the gift Jesus found in Bethany. It was the house
where Martha, Mary and Lazarus lived.
Lazarus became ill. His sisters were worried. They sent a
message to Jesus. They did not ask that Jesus come to Bethany.
They knew He would come. Our need brings Jesus to our side
right away.
Jesus knew what He was doing when He went to Bethany.
He knew He could heal Lazarus. But the time was not right. It was
time for a miracle. This sickness had happened for God‟s glory.
The cure would make men see God‟s glory in action. But Jesus

When Jesus came to Bethany, Lazarus had been dead four
days. The house was full of friends who were sad about his death.
They wondered why Jesus had waited so long.
Martha had seen Jesus do miracles before. She knew Jesus
could have stopped Lazarus from dying (11:21-22). Mary fell at
His feet (11:32). But did they know that Jesus could bring Lazarus
back to life?
Jesus offers hope to all who are near death. “Jesus said to
her, „I am the One who raises the dead and gives them life.
