Practice Love Beyond
the Limits
Linda, my grown daughter, broke her leg. It was the
second time this had happened. She came to our house to get
well. It was very hard for her.
She could not get in the shower. She could not get in the
bath tub. She took what we call “spit” baths. She could not reach
her feet. Guess who got to wash them. That’s right. It was I.
I had washed her baby feet. Now she was a grown woman.
It was different. But the act of washing her feet took on new
meaning. It was something to do in love. She was thankful for the
help. I was thankful to be able to help. It was good for both of us.

An act of love (13:1-5)
There are few places in the gospel story which show Jesus’
character like these verses do. They show His love as well. We
can find the wonder of what He did and who He was.
Jesus knew that His hour of death was near. He knew that
His hour of glory was near, too. It was not long before He would
take His place on the throne of God.. That thought might have
filled Him with pride. Even with the thought of the power and
glory that were His, He washed His disciples’ feet.
Love is always like that. When someone becomes ill, the
person who loves him or her will do the most humble things.
When I saw my daughter’s need, I did not stop to think about it. I
helped her in every way I could.
