The Student Senate is the central representative and legislative organization of the<br />

<strong>Westminster</strong> <strong>College</strong> Student Government Association. Representatives are elected<br />

from each class. The Student Senate allocates its budget to student organizations<br />

and carries out other responsibilities as outlined in the Student Government<br />

Association Constitution. The Student Senators, through the various committees<br />

and in cooperation with the student affairs staff, plan student programs.<br />

THE COLLEGE<br />

<strong>Westminster</strong> students participate in <strong>College</strong> governance by serving on a variety<br />

of standing <strong>College</strong> committees, councils and boards of the faculty. Student<br />

representatives to these bodies are elected by the student body or appointed by the<br />

Student Senate. The senate also nominates three student associate trustees to the<br />

<strong>College</strong>’s Board of Trustees.<br />

THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION<br />

The <strong>Westminster</strong> <strong>College</strong> Alumni Association was chartered by the commonwealth<br />

of Pennsylvania in October 1931. All graduates of <strong>Westminster</strong> are association<br />

members. It is the mission of the association to provide a liaison between the alumni<br />

and the <strong>College</strong>, to encourage material, moral and spiritual support and provide<br />

resource people to assist the <strong>College</strong> in its academic, cultural, extracurricular and<br />

spiritual life. The events and activities of the association are guided by the leadership<br />

of the Alumni Council.<br />

Homecoming, class reunions, regional activities, and the <strong>Westminster</strong> Fund are<br />

some of the opportunities offered to foster friendship among alumni and to provide<br />

forums for alumni service and education.<br />

STUDENT SOCIETIES<br />

Honorary and Professional Organizations<br />

ALPHA KAPPA DELTA is the international honor society in sociology, established at <strong>Westminster</strong><br />

for juniors or seniors who are majoring or minoring in the discipline. It sponsors a variety of<br />

academic and social activities for its members and the larger campus, and generally supports<br />

scholarship dedicated to improving the condition of humankind. Members must have completed<br />

at least four sociology or social science courses, have an overall GPA of 3.250, and have a 3.250<br />

in the major or minor and a rank in the top 35 percent of their class in general scholarship. The<br />

organization may require payment of dues.<br />

ALPHA PSI OMEGA is a nationally recognized theatre honorary fraternity. Membership<br />

requirements include: grades, acting, crew work and leadership.<br />

BETA BETA BETA BIOLOGICAL SOCIETY was established at <strong>Westminster</strong> in 1948 as the Alpha<br />

Sigma chapter. Prerequisites for active membership include a major in the biological sciences,<br />

a minimum of sophomore standing, at least 12 biology semester hours with a 3.000 GPA, and<br />

an all-college GPA of 3.000. Associate membership is available to students of any major who<br />

have taken four biology semester hours and are enrolled in four more semester hours. Affiliate<br />

membership may be granted to anyone with an interest in biology.<br />

DELTA PHI ALPHA, the campus German honorary, was developed to further knowledge of the<br />

German language and the intellect and artistry of German-speaking countries. The group began<br />

its Gamma Tau chapter on March 15, 1960. Prerequisites include a B average in German courses,<br />

one German 300-level course, and payment of local and national dues.
