Prospective students can meet with the LLP director for a tentative assessment of<br />
transferable credits.<br />
The High School/<strong>College</strong> Dual Enrollment Program offers qualifying high school<br />
and home-schooled students the opportunity to prepare for the future while attending<br />
high school or taking classes at home. Interested students should contact their high<br />
school guidance counselor or call the LLP office at (724) 946-7353 for information<br />
about the special conditions that apply.<br />
Also available through the Lifelong Learning Program is post-baccalaureate<br />
certification in elementary education or certification in a subject area for<br />
secondary education. This program is designed for a candidate who currently<br />
possesses a bachelor’s degree and would like to be certified to teach in the K-6 or<br />
secondary classroom. The candidate’s undergraduate degree does not need to be<br />
in education.<br />

Admission into this certification program is based upon a careful review of the<br />
following by the Lifelong Learning Program director and the Department of<br />
Education:<br />
1. 3.0 GPA in the undergraduate degree program<br />
2. interview with the LLP director and Department of Education representative.<br />
3. letter of intent addressed to the chair of the Department of Education<br />
4. two letters of reference addressing candidate’s potential as a teacher<br />
5. official transcripts from all previous schools attended.<br />
Admission will be complete when the completed post-baccalaureate certification<br />
application, a $35 non-refundable application fee, and other required documents<br />
are received by the Lifelong Learning Office.<br />
The Department of Education will analyze transcript(s) to establish a course of<br />
study. Students desiring to be certified in secondary teaching in areas of certification<br />
(biology, chemistry, English, French, general science, Latin, mathematics, physics,<br />
social studies, or Spanish) will have to complete all requirements for the major as<br />
determined by a departmental review of their previous work in the particular subject<br />
area as well as complete all required education courses for certification.<br />
Successful candidates will be recommended for certification pending successful<br />
completion of all required coursework and other departmental requirements, successful<br />
completion of required Praxis Series Examinations, and submission of all<br />
required health and safety clearances for working in schools.<br />
<strong>Westminster</strong> has articulation agreements with Butler County Community <strong>College</strong>,<br />
Penn State University-Shenango and Community <strong>College</strong> of Allegheny County,<br />
which helps transfer students easily move their coursework to a <strong>Westminster</strong> degree<br />
program. Also students can receive credit by examination from CLEP, ACT-PEP,<br />
Advanced Placement and the armed services.<br />
