understanding a city by looking
at its architecture and physical
environment as sites of
collective living, production,
exchange and consumption.
From the production of art to the
collection of rubbish, the course
aims to explore the architectural
and urban dimensions of cities
(from material to cultural and
symbolic) through salient topics
such as city and war, city and
power, city and trade, energy,
transportation, housing, and
entertainment.
Referring to prominent cities in
the world including Hong Kong,
we will touch on significant
urban themes such as local /
global, memory / envisioning,
development / sustainability.
Topics include: What is a city
for? How do cities work? How
are cities made and remade?
What role do architects and
others play in the design,
planning, maintenance and
imagining of cities?
環 境 , 介 紹 閱 讀 城 市 之 基 本 方
法 。 從 藝 術 創 作 到 廢 物 收 集 ,
均 與 城 市 問 題 有 關 。 本 科 研 習
戰 爭 與 城 市 、 權 力 與 城 市 、 貿
易 與 城 市 、 能 源 、 交 通 、 房 屋 、
文 娛 活 動 等 重 要 課 題 , 從 物
料 、 文 化 以 至 象 徵 等 尺 度 探 索
建 築 物 及 城 市 。
透 過 探 討 世 界 著 名 城 市 包 括
香 港 , 我 們 將 觸 及 其 值 得 關 注
的 城 市 議 題 例 如 本 地 與 全
球 、 回 憶 與 展 望 、 發 展 與 可 持
