Description
From the “borrowed time and
borrowed place”, Hong Kong
has evolved into a global city
with its own identity. Since the
1950s, the city experienced an
economic miracle, withstood
numerous financial crises, and
is in the process of economic
restructuring. Politically, it has
turned from “the last Colony”
of Great Britain into a Special
Administrative Region of the
PRC. Culturally, the
flourishing Canto pop-culture
coincides with the emergence
of a local identity. Using a
sociological perspective, this
course critically reflects on the
impact of these profound
changes on the construction of
the so-called ‘Hong Kong
identity’. Who is a
HongKongese? This
seemingly simple question
underlies critical issues and
boundaries about nationality,
ethnicity, language, culture,
class, and citizenship. The
construction of a Hong Kong
identity necessitates the
drawing of boundaries that
include and exclude, defines
who is entitled to resources
and power and who is not, and
projects differential
expectations of rights and
responsibilities on insiders and
outsiders. The question thus
has profound impacts on how
resources and power are
distributed in society, and
affects the life chances of
individuals, families and
society. (Not for Sociology

香 港 從 前 被 喻 為 「 借 來 的 時
間 , 借 來 的 地 方 」。 自 二 十 世 紀
五 十 年 代 起 , 香 港 漸 漸 演 變 成
為 一 個 有 本 土 意 識 的 國 際 大 都
會 。 此 其 間 , 香 港 社 會 創 造 了
經 濟 奇 蹟 , 克 服 過 多 次 的 金 融
風 暴 衝 擊 , 如 今 其 經 濟 正 在 轉
型 。 政 治 上 , 香 港 由 大 英 帝 國
「 最 後 一 個 殖 民 地 」 回 歸 成 中
華 人 民 共 和 國 的 一 個 特 別 行 政
區 。 本 土 普 及 文 化 興 起 , 成 為
了 民 眾 的 集 體 記 憶 。 本 科 採 用
社 會 學 角 度 , 探 討 上 述 多 面 向
的 變 遷 對 ‘ 香 港 人 ’ 這 個 包 含 著
種 族 , 地 域 , 歷 史 , 言 語 , 文 化 ,
經 濟 和 政 治 體 系 的 身 份 的 影 響 .
誰 是 香 港 人 ? 香 港 人 這 一 身 份
的 建 構 過 程 又 隱 含 了 何 種 權 力
關 係 與 張 力 ? 身 份 的 劃 分 產 生
了 那 些 界 限 ? 這 些 界 限 又 如 何
影 響 社 會 資 源 和 權 力 分 配 ? 身
分 和 界 限 對 個 人 , 群 體 與 社 會
又 有 甚 麼 影 響 ? ( 社 會 學 主 修 生
