Description
This course outlines the global
environmental changes
confronting modern society and
discusses how these changes, if
not properly managed, may
undermine the sustainability of
mankind. The course will focus
on the inter-relations between
the human and physical systems
and critically examine the
deficiencies of current
technological, institutional and
societal responses to these
environmental challenges. Case
studies are used to illustrate the
complex nature of sustainability
issues. The need for a
multidisciplinary approach is
also discussed.
現 代 社 會 面 對 全 球 環 境 變
化 , 若 得 不 到 適 當 的 處 理 , 將
會 削 弱 人 類 生 存 的 可 持 續
性 。 本 科 將 集 中 討 論 人 類 與 自
然 系 統 的 關 連 性 及 現 行 技
術 、 體 制 及 社 會 應 對 這 些 問 題
的 不 足 。 本 科 透 過 實 際 個 案 ,
闡 釋 主 要 概 念 , 強 調 可 持 續 發
展 問 題 的 複 雜 性 , 並 指 出 必 需
結 合 不 同 學 科 , 才 能 有 效 解 決
問 題 。

Description
Geographical landscapes are
produced and shaped by various
natural, environmental, economic
and social processes in the world,
manifesting the dynamics and
complexity of the relations between
nature and human beings. Human
economic activities have, to varying
extents, changed much of the
natural landscape on the Earth. The
study of geographic landscape is
therefore essential in order to
develop and advance scientific
principles for the effective use of
natural environment and resources
to continuously improve, transform
and protect the resources that
support humanity’s influence on
global landscape. Considering this
complexity, this course will study
the global landscape by its
constituent parts, its morphological
units, the linkages with economic
and socio-cultural aspects.
Furthermore, students will
investigate the relationships
between the components of given
landscapes in relation to human
activity. As world landscapes are
多 樣 的 自 然 、 環 境 、 經 濟 和 社 會
過 程 產 生 並 影 響 著 地 理 景 觀 , 突
顯 了 人 與 自 然 之 間 動 態 和 複 雜
的 關 係 。 人 類 的 經 濟 活 動 在 不 同
程 度 上 已 經 改 變 了 地 球 上 許 多
的 自 然 景 觀 , 從 而 突 出 了 相 關 研
究 的 重 要 性 , 尤 其 是 對 於 如 何 科
學 地 有 效 利 用 自 然 環 境 和 資 源
並 對 那 些 支 持 人 類 活 動 的 資 源
進 行 持 續 改 進 、 轉 化 和 保 護 。 本
課 程 將 考 慮 全 球 景 觀 的 複 雜
性 , 講 授 其 組 成 、 形 態 單 元 以 及
與 經 濟 和 社 會 文 化 的 關 係 。 學 生
將 會 深 入 探 究 各 類 景 觀 的 組 成
與 人 類 活 動 的 關 係 。 基 於 世 界
景 觀 的 多 樣 性 和 複 雜 性 , 它 們
將 會 繼 續 被 視 爲 人 類 和 環 境
的 重 要 交 界 面 。
