Muskegon Community College Scholarships Muskegon Community College Board of Trustees Scholarship for Home Schooled Amount: $500 ($250 per semester) Application: General plus additional form Requirements: • Are in-district residents, or who are residents of the State of Michigan and graduates of an in-district high school • Provide verification of the date of high school completion • Apply for the scholarship by the stated deadline • Have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.35 or better and enroll full time at MCC • Enroll as a full-time student (at least 12 credits per semester) no later than the fall semester following high school completion • The scholarship award must be applied toward the full-time tuition charges Muskegon Community College Faculty Association Memorial Scholarship Amount: $600 Application: General plus additional form, due Friday, March 8, 2013 Requirements: • Awarded to student leaving MCC after two years of study; 36 credit hours from MCC must have been earned at the time of application • A completed degree (ASA, AAS, etc.) is not required • The applicant must supply evidence of acceptance at a four-year institution. • A 3.25 cumulative GPA is required at the time of application. • Applicant must be recommended by two faculty members • Required essay on application Muskegon Community College Faculty Association Nielsen Scholarship Amount: $200 MCC Bookstore Voucher Application: General plus additional form (available from MCC faculty), Due Friday, November 1, 2013 Requirements: • Successfully completed 12 credit hours at MCC with a minimum 2.0 GPA • Register to take at least three credits at MCC the next winter semester • MCC faculty member’s signature on special application form • Required essay on application Muskegon Community College Faculty Association Recognition Scholarship Amount: $600 Application: General plus additional form, Due Friday, March 8, 2013 Requirements: • A full-time or part-time MCC student who has demonstrated financial need in order to complete his or her program or degree at MCC and returning in fall • A 3.25 cumulative GPA (based on a minimum of 12 MCC credit hours completed) is required at the time of application • Applicant must be recommended by two faculty members • Required essay on application Muskegon Community College Social Sciences Scholarships Amount: $500 to $1,000 Application: General plus additional form Requirements: • Full-time student during the award semester • Must be enrolled for at least one social sciences course during the award semester • You must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher • Required essay on application Muskegon Heights Optimist Club Scholarship Amount: $250 Application: General plus additional form Requirements: • Must be a resident of Muskegon Heights, Michigan • Must demonstrate unmet financial need, as determined by MCC • Must have minimum 2.0 GPA • Must be a full-time student (at least 12 credits per semester) • Required essay on application 6 Muskegon Community College 2013-2014 Scholarship Guide
Muskegon Community College Scholarships Muskegon Scholars Amount: $4,200 for Winter semester 2014 Application: General plus additional form, due December 1, 2013 Requirements: • For students entering a S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) area major • Completion of the FAFSA • Recommendation from a professional regarding the applicant’s aptitude and interest in science or mathematics • Completion of the math requirement for admittance into the program • Completion of the scholarship application which will include a written essay on the S.T.E.M. application • Must demonstrate financial need Muskegonites Child Study Club Scholarship Amount: $500-$1,000 ($250 or $500 per semester, based on credit hours) Application: General plus additional form Requirements: • Enrolled in an Education program/ pursuing teacher certification • Successfully completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at MCC at the time of application; enrolled in six or more credit hours the following semester at MCC • Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA • Demonstrate financial need (as determined by the Financial Aid Office) • Complete application and submit essay of 500 words or less expressing need for scholarship and discussing career goals Performance-Based Scholarships Amount: Varies Application: General plus additional form, due Monday, April 1, 2013 Requirements: • Freshman students who demonstrate a particular creative talent (for example: in art, music, drama, dance, creative writing, etc.) or a high level of achievement in a certain academic area • This program is not based on financial need. Amos Nordman Foundation Scholarship Amount: Varies Application: General Requirements: • Minimum 3.0 GPA • Available for books, required equipment/ supplies, and other MCC-generated fees • Financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office • Applications accepted anytime Larry and Roberta Tetzlaff Scholarship Amount: $1,500 ($750 per semester) Application: General Requirements: • Students need to meet the Ready to Succeed requirements: ACT scores of 24 or higher in math, and 19 or higher in English and reading • Full-time student status with a minimum of 14 credits completed at Muskegon Community College • Declared major with plans to pursue a baccalaureate degree in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering, or math) at an accredited institution • Muskegon County with permanent United States residency status • Demonstrate academic potential or ability, with a minimum grade point average of 2.5 GPA. • Completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form for the academic year requesting the scholarship funds; the FAFSA form should indicate a financial need and household income of $74,499 or less • Completed the Muskegon Community College General Scholarship Application • The second semester disbursement is contingent upon the student achieving “satisfactory status” according to the College’s Satisfactory Academic Progress policy and successful full-time course completion with a semester minimum 2.0 GPA and a grade of C or better in all major courses muskegoncc.edu/scholarships 7
