LITERACY TESTING FOR STUDENTS & STAFF
Jack and Jeannie McMaster from Dryden, Ontario in
Canada visited our College last week, and provided our
teachers with insights into effective practice in reading
and oral language for our students. Jeannie, who is a
literacy specialist in Ontario, visited classes from Prep
to Year 8 and it was the turn of our teachers to
become students, as they learnt about effective
instructional practices in the classroom.
‘It was a wonderful opportunity to learn from experts,
who have been in a system that has progressed from
adversity to triumph in the educational realm.” Mrs
Deans said.
Monday 6 August Prep - Year 2 will be attending Me and My Shadow@ the
Brolga Theatre Leaving the College at 9.30am
An enchanting tale of shadows, lights, music and wonder. Making friends with your shadow can be a tricky business. There
are things to sort out, negotiations to be made, frustrations to be overcome, problems to solve, adventures to be had and
laughter to be shared. Me and My Shadow is presented in the form of a visual poem for children. The show tells its story
using the languages of paper, light, shadow, colour, water, music, sound and words. With fantastical imagery, quirky
physical performances and an intriguing score, Me and My Shadow, seeks to ignite the imaginations of 4‐8 year olds in a
poetical experience that explores the frustrations and joys of friendship.
The Ned show was at Riverside last Monday.
Students in Prep ‐Year 5 took part in this character building assembly.
What is the Ned Show?
The NED Show is a high energy, 45‐minute motivational
assembly featuring NED and lots of active participation for
kids. The NED Show utilises a multi‐sensory learning
model to motivate…encourage…INSPIRE students to
become champions at school and in life. The show teaches
three critical skills that bring out the champion in every kid by sharing the story
of NED, whose name is also an acronym.
These three simple principles can make a profound difference in every student,
as well as create a strong impact on the culture of your entire school. By the
time the assembly is dismissed, students will know that there is a Champion
inside of everyone!
