EDUCATION AND FAITH
News from the CHAPLAIN
I have spent time over the past 5 weeks with a Pastor from Pakistan who has
started a small Christian School within his community. Ps Arif Alshiq shared
some stories with me regarding the struggle many people face in Pakistan in
order to gain an education. There are few schools available and the cost to
attend is so great that many young children are growing up without the ability
to even read their own language. In order to make a difference Ps Arif and his
wife decided to start a small school that would offer a free Christ centred
Ps Arif Sharing with Year 11 & 12 students
education to any children of any faith and background. This school has begun to tech the basics of reading, writing and
Mathematics to 135 students, many of whom are street kids, including 35 children from Muslim families. By giving these
children a foundation of faith and education they are given a hope for a better future. How fortunate we are to be
living here in Australia to be blessed with a school like Riverside Christian College that also strives to give our children a
strong foundation of faith and education.
I am truly thankful that I have the opportunity to see my children attend Riverside Christian College, and I am also
thankful for the passion and commitment of people like Ps Arif who serve to give hope and Gods love to those who need
it most.
