MIDDLE COLLEGE News Year 9 Camp Year 9 students enjoyed their camp at Flame Lily Adventures on the Burrum River. The activities were amazing and included laser skirmish, a giant flying fox and the greatest relay of all time. These were capped off with a sky diving demonstration (including Mr Ball and Mrs Carpenter!) and a free‐for‐all marshmallow fight around the campfire. The three day camp was all about enhancing relationships and building trust within the Year 9 cohort. Friendships were forged, fears overcome, and memories made that will last forever. Mr Richard Ball Important Dates 8 August – Yrs 8‐12 Athletics Carnival 21 Sept – Last day of term and Book Character Day Garage Sale Fundraiser for Fiji Middle College students provided a fun‐filled morning at the Garage Sale. Their fundraising activities and food was amazing. It was very encouraging to see them working during the weekend as an act of service for the students in Fiji. Well done! This year on the 6/7 camp we had the time of our lives. The bus trip on the way down was pretty boring, but when we got to Maranatha the fun kicked in. Straight up we where participating in many different team and trust building activities, most people where pushed to there limits and made to face their fears. Some of the activities we did were possum pull, abseiling, and mid ropes course. We also had to do challenge trail, which was a congo line of people walking through small puddles and rocks BLIND FOLDED! This activity tested our trust in the other 6/7 students. Another activity we participated in was leap of faith where we climbed up a tree – using a ladder of course – walking on a plank – which was only 20 cm wide!! – Leaping off the plank to try and touch a ball suspended – they used a safety harness also. One of the night time activities included an aboriginal man coming in to talk to us about his culture and to share his stories with us. On the way back from camp we where lucky enough to stop off at Mc Donalds for lunch where everyone went crazy on junk food. Overall it was an awesome camp!! We would like to thank Mr and Mrs Harrold, Ms Mathews, Mrs Carpenter and Mr Nehow for coming along and making our time a blast!! (Dustin and Benjeet) Community and Recreation ‐ Soup Kitchen Mrs Downes' Community and Recreation are continuing to supply The Soup Kitchen at St Paul's Anglican Church with 4 large pots of soup on Friday nights. We make the soup in class on Thursday afternoons and Mrs Downes delivers the soup Friday after school. We would appreciate any donations of vegetables (fresh or canned), split peas, lentils, stock powder or cubes, pasta or anything else that can be used in soups. We particularly need pumpkins, potatoes, tins of tomatoes or tomato puree. If you are able to donate items please bring them to Student Reception to be collected by Mrs Downes.
