Emphasis continued to be placed on achieving organizational
compliance with the requirements of the proposed Safety and Health
at Work Bill. The Corporation’s Safety and Health Committee was
restructured in accordance with the legislation and required training in
areas related to first aid and occupational safety and health continues
for members.
In keeping with the bid to enhance occupational safety and health
within the Corporation, an ergonomic assessment was completed at
all BIDC offices. Implementation of agreed recommendations from
the report will commence in the new financial year. In support of
Government’s efforts to promote health and wellness as a national
priority, the Corporation staged a Heath Fest to sensitise employees,
clients and business persons in the Harbour and Pelican Industrial
Estates about the benefits of maintaining healthy lifestyles. In addition
to lectures delivered by health professionals throughout the day, free
health checks, literature and product samples were offered.
During the review period, emphasis continued to be placed on
improving staff relations and the quality of work life. A number of
events were held in support of this. A special presentation, BIDC –
The Other Side, as well as the annual Independence and End of Year
celebrations, allowed members of staff to showcase their creative
talent. Participation in national fitness events like the Nation Fun
Walk were encouraged. Long-serving members of staff as well as
outstanding employees were honoured during the Christmas party
and awards ceremony.
