Undergraduate Programme<br />
Programme Structure<br />
Students enrolled <strong>in</strong> the undergraduate programme complete two<br />
5-month academic semesters and two periods <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternship dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />
their first two years <strong>of</strong> study. The f<strong>in</strong>al year <strong>of</strong> the BA programme<br />
consists <strong>of</strong> two academic semesters. The comb<strong>in</strong>ation <strong>of</strong> academic<br />
study and <strong>in</strong>dustry placement <strong>in</strong> the programme allows students to<br />
learn both theoretical and practical aspects <strong>of</strong> hospitality management.<br />
Programme Intensity<br />
The <strong>in</strong>tensive nature <strong>of</strong> the programmes at SHMS allows students to<br />
graduate with their Bachelor Degree <strong>in</strong> 3 years, with one additional<br />
year for a Master Degree. The programme length corresponds to<br />
<strong>in</strong>ternational standards and has the advantage <strong>of</strong> ensur<strong>in</strong>g students an<br />
accelerated start to their career.<br />
3 Pillar Strategy<br />
At Bachelor level, courses follow a 3 Pillar Strategy focus<strong>in</strong>g on global<br />
trends, bus<strong>in</strong>ess strategy and operational leadership.<br />
Official Language<br />
English is the <strong>of</strong>ficial language <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>struction at SHMS.<br />
English Foundation Programme<br />
SHMS is member <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Swiss</strong> <strong>Education</strong> Group, which <strong>of</strong>fers an<br />
English Foundation Programme to all students whose English skills are<br />
below the required entry level for their chosen hospitality programme.<br />

Language Study<br />
The ability to speak several languages is an important skill <strong>in</strong> the<br />
hospitality <strong>in</strong>dustry. SHMS <strong>of</strong>fers the choice <strong>of</strong> French, German or<br />
Spanish classes.<br />
Faculty<br />
SHMS lecturers come from both academic and <strong>in</strong>dustry backgrounds<br />
and are passionate advocates <strong>of</strong> hospitality education.<br />
Class Size<br />
SHMS boasts an excellent student to teacher ratio with an average<br />
class size <strong>of</strong> 25 students.<br />
Study Advisor<br />
Students who are experienc<strong>in</strong>g difficulty <strong>in</strong> any subject are able to<br />
request the assistance <strong>of</strong> a study advisor. Where possible this will be a<br />
person who speaks the same native language.<br />
International Qualifications<br />
SHMS students are able to achieve 4 different <strong>in</strong>ternationally recognised<br />
qualifications <strong>in</strong> 3 years:<br />
• <strong>Swiss</strong> Higher Diploma<br />
• American Hotel and Lodg<strong>in</strong>g Association (AH&LA) Diploma (optional)<br />
• British BA (Hons) Degree, University Derby<br />
• <strong>Swiss</strong> BA (Hons) Degree, SHMS<br />
Start<strong>in</strong>g Dates<br />
Courses start <strong>in</strong> early February and September each year.<br />

Multi-Campus Experience<br />
All students follow<strong>in</strong>g the undergraduate programme will complete the<br />
first two years <strong>of</strong> their studies at the SHMS Caux campus, cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g<br />
to SHMS Leys<strong>in</strong> for their third year.<br />
