The Because graphic design is the creative process that comes before any step in the printing workflow and determines not only what printed work will look like but also how it will be printed, On Press decided to sit down with some of today’s notable designers to talk about their work and how it relates to printing. While as old as civilization, visual communication exploded in the 20th and 21st centuries as technologies and mass markets combined to create soaring demand for the visual representation of ideas and messages. Two creatives from Toppan Printing, the diversified global Japanese printing company, Art Directors Masahiro Aoyagi and Kiyotaka Takeuchi, along with Printing Director Akihiro Takamoto, describe the process of creating a work featuring high added value printing — Komori’s 2013 calendar — and packaging for consumer products.
