a scary and challenging step along
the road to success. The JCCC
Success Center is a resource for
students who need assistance with meeting those
academic and personal goals.
“The Success Center features the Career Center, where
students can go for help preparing for or getting a job.
The Success Center also features our Add/Drop Desk,
where students can sign up for or drop classes and
it is the place for students to receive their transcript

Within the community college environment,
student services must be multifaceted to
meet the needs of the 21 st ­century student.
Ideally, the various components of student
service functions should support the
educational objectives of students and
the college. Students are sophisticated
consumers and require coordinated quality
service and an environment that leads to
their successful educational experience.
The Student Center, which opened in March
2000, is the physical structure that serves
as the “front door” to the campus for new
students and the “swinging door” for
continuing students. The building houses
all of JCCC’s student services, including
counseling, admissions, registration, student
activities, testing services and financial aid,
as well as the bookstore and dining facilities.
Within the Student Center is the Student Success
Center, which provides students a place to
engage in a coordinated set of student services,
from admission and career selection to financial
aid and academic advising. This setting allows
students to complete necessary enrollment
activities and receive holistic counseling
involving their academic, career and financial
choices in one location. Instruction in selfservice
opportunities also occurs to allow
students to complete many of the required
enrollment processes via electronic methods.

“For students concerned about paying for school,
our financial aid desk is also located in the Success
Center. The staff is always willing to help students
with scholarships, loans and grants with available
information on the many types of deadlines.
“Last, but not least, the Success Center houses our
Intercultural Center, where students from around
the world receive assistance acclimating themselves
to JCCC. It’s always exciting to meet new people from
outside Johnson County and learn something about
a different part of the world.
“In conclusion, no student wants to confront what can
be a daunting challenge – going to college – without
some type of assistance and guidance along the way.
Many students are unsure about a lot of things, and
the Success Center is a helping hand for students as
they continue on their own path to success.”
