promote research programs <strong>and</strong><br />

findings that address key<br />

Promote <strong>and</strong> undertake studies on the <strong>Park</strong>'s<br />

social values <strong>and</strong> natural processes <strong>and</strong><br />

monitor the impacts <strong>of</strong> visitor use <strong>and</strong><br />

management.<br />

The objective is to develop <strong>and</strong><br />

maintain knowledge regarding visitor<br />

use, natural processes <strong>and</strong> the<br />

influence <strong>of</strong> people on the <strong>Park</strong>.<br />

There are many opportunities for research<br />

within the <strong>Park</strong>. The Ecological Studies<br />

Report produced by Brock <strong>and</strong> Pen (1984) was<br />

comprehensive but is now more than 10 years<br />

old. This data needs to be updated in the near<br />

future. Visitor impacts, management impacts<br />

<strong>and</strong> external influences all need to be evaluated<br />

for their impact on the <strong>Park</strong>.<br />

There has only been one small visitor survey<br />

carried out <strong>and</strong> more in depth <strong>and</strong> up to date<br />

information would be beneficial. Social<br />

monitoring that determines visitor satisfaction<br />

<strong>and</strong> impacts is receiving increasing attention<br />

from park management agencies throughout<br />

Australia.<br />

It would be appropriate that research projects<br />

<strong>and</strong> monitoring programs involve as wide a<br />

range <strong>of</strong> people as possible. The involvement<br />

<strong>of</strong> volunteers, educational institutions <strong>and</strong><br />

individual researchers can reduce research <strong>and</strong><br />

monitoring costs <strong>and</strong> assist in providing<br />

information to management bodies <strong>and</strong> the<br />

broader community.<br />

Individual sections <strong>of</strong> the Management Plan<br />

provide strategies concerning monitoring <strong>and</strong><br />

research that needs to be carried out.<br />
