GRADUATION CEREMONY
If, after your final assessment you are recommended by the Examination Board to the Senate of
the University of Glasgow to receive an award, you will be invited to attend the Graduation
Ceremony on Friday 14 June 2013 in the Bute Hall, University of Glasgow.
HOW DO I KNOW WHICH CEREMONY TO ATTEND?
There will be a morning Ceremony scheduled for 10.30am and an afternoon Ceremony scheduled
for 3.30pm. To find out which Ceremony you should attend, please check below:-

EXAMINATION RESULTS AND DEBTS TO THE SCHOOL
Individual result letters will be available for collection from Registry as per the following dates/times:

Thursday 6 June 2013 – 12.00 noon
Architecture students should contact the General Office, MSA for information on examination
results.
Please remember to bring your enrolment card with you. Letters that have not been collected
by 4.30pm will be mailed to your term time address that evening. If you have changed your address
and have not notified Registry , please do so immediately.
DEBTS TO THE SCHOOL
It should be stressed that any student with ANY outstanding debts will not be allowed to
register for graduation. Please note that any outstanding library books (to either GSA or UoG) or
any other debts to the School or the University will prevent you from graduating. GSA library books
must be returned by Friday 31 May 2013. Additionally, any financial debts (e.g. Studio Fees) to the
School should be cleared by 28 May 2013.
IF YOU HAVE ANY OUTSTANDING DEBTS OR HAVE NOT REGISTERED FOR GRADUATION BY
TUESDAY 28 MAY 2013 YOU WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO GRADUATE. THIS WILL RESULT IN
DELAYING THE CONFERMENT OF YOUR AWARD UNTIL THE 2014 CEREMONY.

GRADUATION REGISTRATION
All potential graduands must register for
graduation regardless of whether or not they
intend to attend the Ceremony. Failure to
register for Graduation will result in delaying
the conferment of your award until the next
Ceremony.
The costs for Graduation are as follows:-
: Graduate and attendance
at the Ceremony £52.00
: Graduate in Absentia £25.00
Please note that the above fees include life
membership of GSA Alumni.
You should ensure that you return your
registration form and proof of payment to the
Registry Office at any point before 12 April
2013.
You will need to make your payment to the
Finance Office in advance of registering and
can make payment in person, over the phone
on 0141 353 4503 or online at
http://tiny.cc/5ppusw
If you have already completed your
programme or are no longer resident in
Glasgow you may register for Graduation via
post. Please contact Registry on
studentrecords@gsa.ac.uk for further details.
If you intend to graduate in absentia, you are
still required to complete and submit your
Registration Form in line with the above
dates. Your parchment will then be forwarded
to your home address in July 2013.
If you register to attend Graduation and
subsequently decide not to, providing that
you inform Registry before Tuesday 28 May
2013, a £27.00 refund will be issued.
Similarly, if you are not recommended for an
award your registration fee will also be
reimbursed.
Please remember to bring your receipt with
you on the day as we will not be able to
process payments in Registry.

GUEST TICKETS FOR GRADUATION
Each graduand will be issued with 2 guest
tickets. Tickets are allocated on a first-come,
first-served basis and as far as possible
graduands are allowed to choose where their
guests are seated, provided there are tickets
available in that area.
Everyone, including children, admitted to
the hall must be in possession of a ticket.
Please note that seats in the balcony and
wing areas of the Bute Hall are accessible
only by steep winding stairways and are
not suitable for guests with mobility
difficulties.
If any of your guests have special
requirements please indicate this when you
return your Registration Form.
EXTRA TICKETS
Additional tickets are £5.00 each. If you
would like to apply for extra tickets please
indicate the amount on your Registration
Form.
DEGREE SHOW/PRIVATE VIEW
You will also be able to collect Degree Show
private view invitations from Registry from
20 May 2013. Two private view exhibitions
will take place this year, the “City Night”
being held on Thursday 6 June and the
“Friends and Family Night” being held on
Friday 7 June, both of which will officially
open from 6.00pm on the relevant night.
Please be aware that admittance will be
strictly by invitation only. Anyone without
a ticket will not be allowed in the
buildings. More information regarding
Degree Show can be obtained from the
Marketing and Development Office, Rose
Street.
ACADEMIC DRESS/ROBE HIRE
All graduands are required by the University
of Glasgow to wear academic dress. You will
be expected to dress appropriately for the
occasion (no jeans and t-shirts please!).
National dress may be worn.
Gowns and hoods should be hired from Ede &
Ravenscroft. Please visit their website
www.gownhire.co.uk to complete their online
hire form. You should ensure that you
order your robes as soon as possible and
certainly before Tuesday 28 May 2013 as
they will not guarantee that they can provide
robes if ordered within 3 weeks of the
ceremony. Please note that when booking
robes online you will need to know your
height and chest measurements and have
credit/debit card details available.
Robes can be collected from the Hunter Hall
(West), University of Glasgow on Graduation
Day.There can be long queues for robes and it
is important that you allow enough time to
be able to register before your Ceremony.

GRADUATION DAY
Once you have collected your gown and hood
you should then make your way to the
registration point, which will be located at the
top of the main staircase, Gilbert Scott
Building (directly under the main tower). It is
imperative that you arrive by the stated
time. If you do not you may not be
permitted to graduate.
You will then be shown to the appropriate
robing room, given instructions for the
collection of your award and proceed in order
into the main hall for the Ceremony. Once
registered you are not permitted to leave the
robing rooms. You are, therefore, advised to
make any necessary arrangements with your
guests prior to registering.
Guests will be admitted to the hall 45
minutes prior to the commencement of the
Ceremony. The Ceremony will last
approximately 1 1 / 2 hours and refreshments
and strawberry tarts will be served for
graduates and guests in the cloisters /
quadrangles afterwards. The Degree Show
will remain open until 7.00pm.
PARKING
Please note that parking in the vicinity of the
University is difficult and you are advised to
consider using public transport. No parking
will be available on campus. Parking can be
arranged, however, for disabled guests and
you should inform Registry if you require this
facility. You will be asked to provide the
guest's name, the car model and registration
number.
PUBLICATION OF INFORMATION
Please note that a list of names and degrees
(not classifications) of all our graduates will
appear in The Herald on the day of
Graduation and will also be published in the
Graduation Programme. If you do not wish
for your name to appear in the Herald, please
ensure that you inform Registry when you
register.
OTHER INFORMATION
Toilets, including Disabled Persons toilets, are
situated by the Visitors Centre in the
Hunterian Gallery.
Please note that the name on your degree
certificate will be the same as shown on
your Registration Form. If this is incorrect
please inform Registry immediately.
PHOTOGRAPHER
The official photographer, Success
Photography Scotland will be available in the
Hunter Hall (West), both before and after the
Ceremony. Please visit their website
www.successphotography.com for further
information and an order form. You are
warned to be very wary of free-lance
photographers who may insist on immediate
payment and then fail to honour the order.

GSA ALUMNI
Anyone who has attended The Glasgow
School of Art for three months or more
automatically becomes a member of GSA
Alumni. You will be joining over 11,700
former students and graduates of the School
and, long after you have gone your separate
ways, we can assist you in organising reunions
and events - helping you to keep in touch
with your fellow students across the world.
The Glasgow School of Art prides itself on the
success of its students and alumni and we do
not want those achievements to go
unnoticed.We look forward to sharing in your
news and accomplishments and hope that
many of you will help us in the future to
provide careers advice, work placements and
assist with recruitment at home and overseas.
As former students you are our greatest
advocates and can, in many ways, make a
valuable contribution to your alma mater.
We will be in touch with you soon after you
leave, keeping you regularly up to date with
developments and achievements at the
School, and, through email, our internet pages
and Flow, the School magazine (which you
will receive as long as we have an up to date
address for you), we hope you will continue
to feel part of it and its future. You can help
us to do this by keeping us up to date with
your address and any items of news in which
you think we would be interested.
Please ensure that you leave a permanent
contact address with Registry (not your
term time address unless you intend to
remain there for the next few years or it is
your permanent family home) - preferably
a parental address (if appropriate) as this is
likely to change less often than your own
over the coming years - and very
importantly, an email address if you have
one.
Thinking about how to stay in touch with the
School after you finish your studies may not
be your first priority right now but, as an
alumnus of the GSA, you are part of its future.

POST GRADUATION
LIBRARY ACCESS AFTER YOU GRADUATE
GSA Library staff will be pleased to welcome you as an external member of the Library and as a GSA
graduate, you will be entitled to a significant reduction on the normal annual fee. You’ll find an
application form at the back of this booklet.
CAREERS ADVICE AND GUIDANCE AFTER GRADUATION
In the final months of studying at the GSA all of your energy is likely to be focused on developing
and staging your degree show, and thoughts about what happens after study, put on hold. If you are
unsure about your future career direction or have not fully considered your transition from study
into the world of work, being a new graduate can be both confusing and challenging.
If you require guidance or advice about specific professional practice or are unsure about your
options, remember you can still access the GSA Careers Service after graduation. Our Careers
Adviser has a wealth of experience, information and practice regarding the creative sector and is
available for appointments throughout the summer.

LIBRARY EXTERNAL MEMBERSHIP
APPLICATION FORM
The current annual fee is £40, and membership lasts for one year. Graduates and Friends of The
Glasgow School of Art are charged £25. Unemployed persons are charged £25 on production of a
UB40 card.
Readers may borrow a maximum of five books at any time from the Lending Library. Slides, journals,
videos and DVDs may not be borrowed. Membership does not include access to the Computer
Centre.

Remember, you will need to wear the correct robes to attend your
graduation ceremony.
• Before you start, make sure you know your chest and height measurements
and have your credit/debit card details available
• If you do not have access to a computer, you can hire or buy your outfit from our call
centre on 01223 861854. Open from 9 am - 5 pm Monday to Friday. PLEASE NOTE: you
will not receive the on-line hire discount if you order via the call centre.
Calls may be monitored for staff training. Facilities for the deaf & hard of hearing or those with a speech

• Print out the order confirmation and take it with you when you collect your outfit on the
day of your ceremony so we can process your order quickly.
Book early to be sure of your order!
We cannot guarantee to supply you with an outfit if you leave your booking later than
14 days before your ceremony. However, you can still try to place an order through our
website or call centre after this date. We take a limited spare stock to the ceremony,
but this is charged at a premium rate on a first come first served basis.
