2007 USLR Annual Meeting
Shannon Rogers Simpson, reporter
The meeting was opened by Tim Foley
with warm thanks to Cele Noble for her
hard work on the newsletter, Rennie Squier
for the database, Charlie and Linda Duggan
for the new computer, the Outgoing and
Incoming Board of Directors, and a big
salute to Nancy Stockdale and Melinda
Suydam (who was unable to be present due
to riding lessons in Piber!).
Tim read the new mission statement for
the USLR, which reflected the desire for one
unified organization, stressing the roles of
volunteers, striving for professionalism in
all things, being sure to include all persons
and adding more value and services to the
membership.
Nancy Stockdale reported (per Melinda)
that in the first half of the year, the USLR
has registered 27 purebred, one appendix
and eight half Lipizzans. Additionally, she
reported on registrations from 1981 to 2007.
There have been 1309 total registrations of
purebred horses since 1981 and another 54 in
the appendix registry. Some of these could
be considered part-bred, but with research
into Romanian records it is possible their
pedigrees could be filled in. There were also
288 registered (DNA tested) and 49 recorded
(untested) half Lipizzans for a total of 337.
Treasurer Lyn Schaeffer reported that
in the period of August 15, 2006 to August
14, 2007, there was a 35% increase in income
but only a 21% increase in expenses. The
treasurer’s report will be available online
within one week. The stallion auction
raised $3900. She was pleased to report that
income was 10% above the projected budget
and the expenses were only 2% ahead,
showing that we are sticking to the budget
rather well.
A thank you was offered to Rennie
Squier for programming, rectifying data
and teaching everyone how to use the new
database. New features include better links
between membership records and the
registry data, links to DNA markers, better
compatibility, easier changes and updates,
and the ability to add a horse’s photograph
to the record, as well as micro-chipping
information. Members are asked to please
e-mail good photographs of their horses
to the USLR office for inclusion in pedigree
records, although they will not be printed
on the pedigree at this time. It will now be
possible to complete transfers of ownership
in three working days, along with faster
registration, naming assistance, better
security and offsite storage in multiple sites.
It was reported that the website is now
professionally done in an endeavor to keep
the news current. New features include a
member locator. Please zoom in and check
your information for accuracy! If you do not
wish to participate, please notify the USLR
office. Other new features include the Stork
Corner (send in photos of your new babies!!!)
and Lipizzan Legacy, which will feature a
photo and brief story about Lipizzans who
have passed away. Please send photos and
information to shannonsimpson@comcast.
net or Lyn Schaeffer at farview@together.
net . It is hoped that eventually we can
compile, as complete as possible, a pictorial
history of the Lipizzans who have lived in
the United States.
Linda Duggan asked that members
please consider joining committees and
to let the office know if they have a special
talent or profession that could be helpful.
She also discussed our presence on RFD-
TV and advertisement successes this past
year. She reminded members that there
is support material, such as pamphlets
and displays, if you just ask for them at the
office! There has been a significant spike in
merchandise sales including shipments to
Canada and France!
Newsletter revenue has more than
doubled. Much layout is done by Carol Eilers
– many thanks go out to her. Please consider
supporting her publication, Apples ‘n Oats
[www.applesnoats.com], to show your
appreciation! All members are encouraged
to send information, new ideas or stories to
Cele or Linda to keep the newsletter fresh
and interesting.
The entire slide show presentation of
the meeting is available for viewing on the
Member Information page at our website, at
www.USLR.org.
The ballots were counted (95 were
returned) and we would like to congratulate
Tim Foley who remains as President; Muffin
Smith who remains as Secretary; and new
board members Mella Smith and Chris York.
The dissolution of USLR and the
transfer of assets to LFA were discussed
at great length. Ingun Littorin reminded
everyone that the formation of the LFA as
a single, unified membership organization
is an inclusive effort, and that “everyone
involved has put their heart and soul into
it…”. It was agreed that the goals for the
LFA are to be a democratic organization,
to continue to offer professional services,
and to understand that the Pedigree Trust
is simply a legal “backup system” for the
records that we agree with and support. All
pedigrees are being submitted to the ILF for
inclusion in their online database.
Tim Foley called for a voice vote of the
membership of all those for the unification
of the USLR, LANA and ALBA. It was spinetingling
to hear the massive chorus of “AYE”
resounding across the fields at Tempel
Farms, and Tim declared it to be by acclaim.
2007 ALBA Annual Meeting
Gayla Edwards, reporter
After an interesting mini-clinic on
“Teaching the Piaffe from Young to Finished
Horse,” by the director of training, Jochen
Hippenstiel, the first meeting of the 2007
symposium was ALBA.
The board was represented by
President, Ingun Littorin; Secretary, June
Boardman; and Treasurer, Rennie Squier.
Ingun gave a brief welcome, history of ALBA
and an overview of the meeting.
June quickly went over the minutes
from the last meeting in 2006 and Rennie
offered the treasurer’s report; the following
a synopsis of that report:
• Beginning balance $2269.88
• Income $2186.34
• Expenses $1419.12
• Ending balance $3037.10
Other reports:
• The goal of ALBA is to be part of the LFA
but at the present we are still a separate
entity.
• In 2007 ALBA is developing a list of judges
for evaluations in the US and will facilitate
evaluation around the country.
LIF
• Ingun was appointed Vice President of
the LIF board and she gave a brief synopsis
of information, which she will be writing
up in a report herself.
• Of great importance to us in the US, is
the development of a world-wide web site
of registered Lipizzans to which the LFA
will add its data, and will update yearly.
• Anyone will be able to pull up info on any
Lipizzan in the world.
• The first LIF judges training session
was held at Piber with two more to
follow shortly. Ingun will try to get us all
a download of all the specifics from those
meetings.
More will be written up on the LIF
activities.
The ALBA meeting ended and we were
off for a tour of the Tempel Farm stables,
horses and pastures – What a treat!
2007 LANA Annual Meeting
Kathleen Donnelly, reporter
September 8, 2007 - The meeting convened
at 2:15 p.m., led by John Gliege. A quorum was
present. Board members attending were
Susan Castle, John Gliege, plus Delphi Toth,
Gary Lashinsky. and Carolyn Proeber by
telephone.
I. Mel gave the Treasurer’s Report for the
fiscal year July 1, 2006 – June 30, 2007. Net
was -$400 for the year. Significant expenses
were printing, $5,000 and promotions, $1,300.
