Dormitory monitors are expected to:<br />

• Carry themselves in a way that embodies the balance of community membership and selfdiscipline<br />

expected in our dormitories.<br />

• Be excellent role models, following all the rules of the school.<br />

• Have a fundamental role in building a strong sense of community in each dormitory.<br />

• Be present and visible in the dormitories and around campus.<br />

• Plan and facilitate events in their dormitories.<br />

• Encourage and remonstrate students appropriately.<br />

• Work closely with dormitory heads to establish expectations specific to the running of their<br />

particular dorm.<br />

• Reach out to other students to help ease their transition to a new school or a new dormitory.<br />

• Work together to make certain that every member of a dormitory community is known well.<br />

• Immediately communicate major problems that arise in the dorm.<br />

• Support the other members of his dormitory team and serve as a spokesperson for<br />

student concerns.<br />

• Communicate as soon as possible to a faculty member or the health center via the sanctuary<br />

policy, if s/he has reason to believe that a fellow student’s health, safety or place at <strong>Taft</strong> may<br />

be at risk. In an emergency, always call 911.<br />
