•Million Dollar Goal Exceeded
A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to the many Endowment and Legacy Society members
who helped us exceed our pledge goal of $1,000,000 for the sustainability of critical
services into the future. Read more on the March calendar page.
•A&A Cottages Merger
Collaboration is a win-win situation as evidenced by the recent merger of A&A
Cottages into A New Leaf. The Foster Care program recruits and trains adults to
become licensed, foster parents. The Empower Transitional Living program provides
independent living housing and training to homeless young adults ages 18-25.
•The Pat Gilbert Center
The East Valley’s one-stop-shop of services for low-income residents in Mesa was
dedicated in May to Pat Gilbert and houses Maricopa County WIC and Immunizations,
Marisol Federal Credit Union, A New Leaf Community Behavioral Health
Services and MesaCAN.
• West Valley One-Stop-Shop
A New Leaf looks forward to providing multiple services at one location in Glendale
with the recent purchase of adjoining property on 61st Avenue.
2009 – 2010 Milestones
•Youth Residential Programming
Residential homes for youth have transitioned to meet the special needs of the
population through accelerated, intense residential and outpatient services.
•After School/Summer Program Expansion
This low-income, child care program has grown over the years from the East Valley to
the West Valley and now includes the newly renovated Glendale site, a former Boys
& Girls Club.
•DV STOP Expansion
The DV STOP program has expanded into a centralized intake hub for the agency’s
domestic violence shelters with goals of completing A New Leaf homeless shelter
intakes as well as those of domestic violence shelters valley wide.
• EVMC Kitchen Renovation Project
Building is underway for a million dollar plus renovation project. Upon completion,
volunteers will be able to work in the basic needs building with new donations and
in the new dining room and kitchen building preparing and serving meals to the 84
residents.

Tax Credit Donation
Your contribution to A New Leaf Foundation may
qualify for a dollar-for-dollar credit up to $200 ($400
if married filing jointly) against your Arizona income
tax liability. Donations qualify for the Arizona
Credit for Contributions to Charities that provide
Assistance to the Working Poor, even if you have
already taken advantage of the school tax credit.
Deadline for a 2010 donation is December 31,
2010.
Endowment and Legacy Giving
Gifts to the Foundation’s Endowment Fund grow
in time, providing long-term funding to ensure
program support year after year. With the principle
of your gift remaining intact for perpetuity, it is the
gift that keeps on giving. Opportunities are offered
through an outright gift, multi-year pledge and
planned giving. See the March page of this calendar

The average age of a homeless person in Maricopa County is 7-years-old.
Over 300 children and their families were sheltered at La Mesita Family Homeless Shelter this year.

Behavioral Health programs including the After School/Summer program.

The many facets of A New Leaf’s Community Behavioral Health Services include:
• Outpatient Clinics offering counseling, psychiatric services, case management, and youth support.
• After School Programs help teach children with behavioral health needs
the necessary behavioral management and social skills needed to succeed.
• Parents and Children Teaming Together provides in-home support to children at high-risk for out-of-home placement.
• In-Home Respite offers a much needed break for stressed families providing companionship and activities for children.

The largest growing homeless population is teenagers. The Empower Program
provided 125 homeless young adults (ages 18-25) a safe place to live and
independent living skills to carry forward with them when they leave.
