Installation Ceremony
for University
President Troy Paino
Alumni, parents, and friends
are invited to join the
Truman community on
Sept. 17, 2010, for the Installation
Ceremony for Troy D. Paino, the
University’s 16th president. During
the ceremony, which will be held in
Baldwin Auditorium, Paino will
officially be installed in the position
he has held since May 10, 2010.
Coughlin Serving as
Interim Provost and
Vice President for
Academic Affairs
Richard Coughlin, dean of
Libraries and Museums,
is currently serving as
interim provost and vice
president for Academic Affairs.
He began his new role on May
10, when Troy Paino, the former
provost and vice president for
Academic Affairs, began his
duties as the new president of
Truman State University following the retirement of
President Darrell Krueger.
“Dean Coughlin is a trusted and respected administrator
who knows the University well,” said University
President Paino. “I am deeply indebted to him for his
willingness to serve in this capacity.”
Prior to coming to Truman in 1995 to serve as director
of the University’s library and head of the Division of
Libraries and Museums, Coughlin was the administrative
services librarian for Boston College Libraries.
Coughlin received a bachelor’s degree in history from
Merrimack College and a master of science in library
science from Simmons College.
Luke Freeland Appointed
to Board of Governors
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon
appointed Luke
Freeland as the next
student representative to the
Truman State University Board of
Governors, and Freeland was
confirmed by the Missouri Senate
on April 15. A physics major
from Kirksville, Mo., Freeland is
also pursuing a minor in political science with an
emphasis in pre-law.
As a student at Truman, Freeland has occupied
leadership roles in Blue Key honor service fraternity as
well as Alpha Kappa Lambda, and he has been active
with Campus Pals, the Joseph Baldwin Academy and the
SERVE Center. In March 2010, Freeland served as cocoordinator
for the SERVE Center’s Big Event. Among
his accomplishments at Truman, Freeland has received
the University’s Golden Leadership Award and
President’s Scholarship.
Rent-A-Textbook
Beginning this fall, the Truman State University
Bookstore will offer students a new, multichannel
textbook rental program. The textbook
rental program will allow students to rent their
textbooks from the Truman Bookstore for less than 50
percent of the cost of purchasing a new printed
textbook.
Students can highlight or mark the rented books just as
they would if they purchased a book and planned to sell
it back to the bookstore. Students will also have the
opportunity to convert their rental to a purchase during
the first two weeks of class.
Barnes & Noble began piloting their rental program
earlier this year at 25 campus bookstores across the
country.
