1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING<br />

A. Store brick off ground and cover to protect from elements.<br />

B. Deliver aggregates to and store in segregated areas to prevent mixing with foreign<br />

materials.<br />

PROJECT CONDITIONS<br />

A. Environmental requirements:<br />

I. Do not place concrete or brick during rain, snow or when atmospheric<br />

temperature is at or below 36 degrees F. (36F), or when conditions are<br />

otherwise unfavorable as determined by the ENGINEER.<br />

2. Do not install sand and pavers over frozen base materials.<br />

3. Do no! install frozen or saturated sand.<br />

<strong>PA</strong>RT 3 - EXECUTION<br />

3.0 I EXAMINATION<br />

A. Prior to all work of this section, verify that this installation may properly<br />

commence,<br />

B. Verify that the work of this section may be installed in accordance with all<br />

pertinent codes and regulations, the original design, and the referenced standards,<br />

I. Verify that earthwork is completed to correct line and grade.<br />

2. Verify that forms conform to line, grade and dimensions shown on Plans.<br />

3. VerifY that subgrade is smooth, compacted and free of excessive moisture.<br />

C. In the event of discrepancy, immediately notify the ENGINEER.<br />

D. Do not proceed ,vith installation in areas of discrepancy until all such<br />

discrepancies have been fully resolved.<br />

3.02 PRE<strong>PA</strong>RATION<br />

A. Coordinate with ENGINEER for marking out of sidewalk removal limits.<br />

[3. Excavate subgrade and sct forms so that finished sidewalk conforms to lincs and<br />

grades shown on Plans, or as directed by the ENGINEER.<br />

C. Prepare side\valk subgrade as specified in Seclion 31 2300.<br />

3.03 INSTALLATION<br />

A. Performance:<br />

J. Do not usc brick with chips. cracks, voids, discolorations or other visible<br />

defects.<br />

2. Set brick with unifonn joints in running bond pattern. Long axis of brick<br />

to be perpendicular to curb.<br />

3. Place expansion joints in accordance with Section 02533, Roadway<br />

Concrete.<br />

3.04 ADJUST AND CLEAN<br />

A. Remove and replace bricks that have become loose, chipped, broken, stained, or<br />

otherwise damaged during installation.<br />

B. Provide new units to match adjoining units and install in fresh mortar, pointed to<br />

eliminate evidence of replacement.<br />

C. Cleaning:<br />

1. Remove mortar droppings before hardening.<br />

2. Wet paving with fine spray until waler runs fi'ecly over surface.<br />

3. Apply brick manufacturer's recommended cleaning solution with stiff<br />

brush.<br />

4. Scrub rnaxirhtim of 1 00 square feet of Sllrf~lcC at one time.<br />

5. Rinse with clear water.<br />

3.05 PROTECTION<br />

A. Protect concrete and finished brick work (i'om pedestrian and vehicular traffic<br />

until concrete has been suftlciently cured as determined by the ENGINEER.<br />

B. . Mcthod of protection shall be npprovcd by the ENGINEER prior to beginning<br />

work under this section.<br />
