1.01 SUMMARY

1. New brick sidewalk in areas designated Oil Plans.
2. Remove and reset existing brick sidewalk on new concrete pad in areas
designated on Plans.

1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Store brick off ground and cover to protect from elements.
B. Deliver aggregates to and store in segregated areas to prevent mixing with foreign
materials.

PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Environmental requirements:
I. Do not place concrete or brick during rain, snow or when atmospheric
temperature is at or below 36 degrees F. (36F), or when conditions are
otherwise unfavorable as determined by the ENGINEER.
2. Do not install sand and pavers over frozen base materials.
3. Do no! install frozen or saturated sand.

2.01 MATERIALS
A. Concrete:
I. Concrete for setting bed shall conform to Section 02533, Roadway
Concrete.
B. Joint filler:
1. Exposed: "Scaltite Sponge Rubber" expansion joint material by 'vV. R.

Materials:
a. Edging shaH be manufactured from mill finish, 6()63, T-50r6063,
T-6 extruded aluminum alloy. M(ltcrial shall be 2W' high with 45°,
"V" cutOll!S in b(lse along with recessed stake pockets every 4
inches.
b. Sections shaLl lock together without offset or overlap. Joining tabs
and hardware to connect sections shall be supplied with edging.
c. Standard 3/8" x 10" steel spikes shall be provided.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.0 I EXAMINATION
A. Prior to all work of this section, verify that this installation may properly
commence,
B. Verify that the work of this section may be installed in accordance with all
pertinent codes and regulations, the original design, and the referenced standards,
I. Verify that earthwork is completed to correct line and grade.
2. Verify that forms conform to line, grade and dimensions shown on Plans.
3. VerifY that subgrade is smooth, compacted and free of excessive moisture.
C. In the event of discrepancy, immediately notify the ENGINEER.
D. Do not proceed ,vith installation in areas of discrepancy until all such
discrepancies have been fully resolved.
3.02 PREPARATION
A. Coordinate with ENGINEER for marking out of sidewalk removal limits.
[3. Excavate subgrade and sct forms so that finished sidewalk conforms to lincs and
grades shown on Plans, or as directed by the ENGINEER.
C. Prepare side\valk subgrade as specified in Seclion 31 2300.
3.03 INSTALLATION
A. Performance:
1. Constnlct concrete setting bed in acc()I'{iancc with Section 02533,
Roadway C'Ollcrclc.

J. Do not usc brick with chips. cracks, voids, discolorations or other visible
defects.

2. Set brick with unifonn joints in running bond pattern. Long axis of brick
to be perpendicular to curb.
3. Place expansion joints in accordance with Section 02533, Roadway
Concrete.
3.04 ADJUST AND CLEAN
A. Remove and replace bricks that have become loose, chipped, broken, stained, or
otherwise damaged during installation.
B. Provide new units to match adjoining units and install in fresh mortar, pointed to
eliminate evidence of replacement.
C. Cleaning:
1. Remove mortar droppings before hardening.
2. Wet paving with fine spray until waler runs fi'ecly over surface.
3. Apply brick manufacturer's recommended cleaning solution with stiff
brush.
4. Scrub rnaxirhtim of 1 00 square feet of Sllrf~lcC at one time.
5. Rinse with clear water.
3.05 PROTECTION
A. Protect concrete and finished brick work (i'om pedestrian and vehicular traffic
until concrete has been suftlciently cured as determined by the ENGINEER.
B. . Mcthod of protection shall be npprovcd by the ENGINEER prior to beginning
work under this section.
