2.3.25 Wattle Street, Windang
Turning left into Wattle Street is hazardous due
to fast moving traffic also turning into Wattle
Street from Shellharbour Road, and the lack
of space when turning onto Wattle Street.
This situation could be alleviated by providing
a shared use path along Wattle Street to the
Kurrajong Street intersection, or implementing
the recommendations in 2.3.24.
2.3.26 Windang Bridge
Until a cycleway/shared use path is built across
Windang Bridge the crossing of the bridge
needs to be made as user-friendly as possible.
The crossing needs to cater to both on-road
riders, as well as people using the footpath to
avoid the road traffic and associated risks.
Southbound cyclists wishing to ride on-road
over the bridge are given access to Shellharbour
Road via a contra-flow cycleway up Fern Street,
and cyclists intending to use the footpath
should be guided under the bridge to join the
Western footpath on the bridge. It is presumed
that any shared use path would be built on
the West side of the bridge due to the better
access, and therefore using the West footpath
is recommended.
Northbound cyclists either arriving on-road or
from the footpath should be guided under the
bridge to join the Northbound back street cycle
route.

plans).
Sign A: Should guide competent road cyclists
to the on-road route over the bridge and direct
cyclists intending to use the footpath under the
bridge to the Western footpath.
Sign B: Should direct Northbound cyclists onto
the shared use path under the bridge.
Both signs should include distances and travel
times to Wollongong, Shellharbour, etc.
