Club Happenings Pet Club Pet Club will NOT have a regular meeting in August. Important Information concerning Pets in the summer heat: During the hot summer months, please leave your pets at home, not in the car. As temperatures in some parking lots outside can soar above 120 degrees, temperatures in cars can soar above 150 degrees, even with the windows partially open. Please know that parking in a shaded area in hot weather gives minimal or no relief to the animal. Hold the date: Best Friends Weekend/Kanab,Utah, Thursday 9/25- Sunday 9/28/08. If you are interested in attending the Pet Club weekend at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, please contact Shel McCann at shelmccann@cox.net or phone: 614-4895. Pet Club members can choose which areas to volunteer (dog, cat, bird, etc.,) and can volunteer for as little or as many hours as they want. We will be carpooling to Best Friends, so let Shel know ASAP if you are interested in attending this event. Come join us for a rewarding and fun weekend. Pet of the Month: When Anne Salus’ male Papillon, Zuni, was 2 1 /2 years, Anne decided that Zuni needed some company. Zoe, a female Papillon, was the runt of a litter, and it was love at first sight for Anne and Zuni. Zoe joined the family. Anne says that “Zoe is a love, very dainty, very feminine, and very spoiled.” Zuni and Zoe get along extremely well, but Zoe shows him that she is the boss. Zoe will sit on the edge of Anne’s bed at night and block Zuni from coming up. Anne says it’s a ritual, and she has to say loudly, “Zoe, let Zuni up the dog steps.” Zuni is now 5 1 /2 and Zoe is 3 years old, but they still play fight with each other, and they kiss, and clean each other. According to Anne, “other than my son, Jason who is number #1, they are right up there, and I can’t imagine my life without them. Zoe is the little girl I never had, and Zuni is my special angel.” The Pet Club is open to all Sun City Anthem Residents. Our members have dogs, cats, birds, turtles, etc. Some of our members don’t have a pet of their own, but love animals and enjoy our informative and fun meetings. For information, please contact President, Nancy Galbraith at 897-0695, and visit our Pet Club website: wwwsiteskins.net/scanthempetclub for upcoming events.
