LBS Sailing Association
The LBS Sailing Club held 40 races in 2012. That is a new record. There
were no weather cancellations, and no curtailed race dates. Racers
included Dan Brockman who participated in 36 races followed by Sandy
Smith who raced 32 times. Mel Smith raced 27 times and LBSSA Treasurer
Bob Broda raced 26 times. Blair Zell raced 25 times in 2012, and won the
best New Sailor award for the year for his commitment and effort.
Mel Smith took 17 firsts, 3 seconds and 2 thirds to win the Nugent Trophy
with a perfect record in his best 12 races and also took first place for the
entire season. Dan Brockman took 8 firsts, 4 seconds and 12 thirds in the
season to win both second place in the Nugent and for the season. Sandy
Smith won 6 races, came in second in 5 and third in 8 races and won third
place in the Nugent and for the season.
New member sailors Sam Swisher and Mark Gibson both did well and are
a threat for next season’s competitions. Joe Kleifges raced 16 times, a new
record for him. Other racers included Javier Suarez with 16 races.
The grand awards party was held on Saturday, October 13th, in the
Fireplace Room and the Ballroom. Members and guests enjoyed the
catered dinner and trophy presentations. It was an exciting end to the
2012 season for the Lake Barrington Shores Sailing Association. Thanks to
our volunteers for their help in making the year successful and
entertaining. See you on February 17th, 2013 for the Winter Training
Session. New residents are welcome.

LBS Billiards Tournament
Update
The eight ball tournament is in high gear with just
three players left in the first round: Ed Schwartz,
Bob Dorman, and Norm Fein. The winner of this
group will have a playoff against the winner of
the second round. There are seven players still in
the second round all fighting for first place and
the chance to play the winner of the first
round. Any residents of LBS are welcome to join
the LBS Billiards Club. Interested players can contact
