From Your President
AROUND THE LAKE
At our October meeting, the Master Board voted to send homeowners our proposed budget for 2013 including a 1.5% increase
in assessments as recommended by the Finance Commission.
We continue to closely manage our operating expenses which will decrease slightly in 2013. The assessment increase will provide
funds for proposed infrastructure projects totaling almost $7 million over the next 5 years. Our thanks to Deanna
Loughran, Executive Director, Steve Wyland, Public Works Director, Bill Metzler, Landscape Manager, Jim Jarvis and Bill Brink,
Co-Chairs of the Finance Commission, and our commission volunteers for all of their efforts over the past 6 months in preparing
our budget for 2013 and long range plan for the next 5-years.
This is also a great opportunity for you to learn what is being planned by your individual condo associations as they work on
their budgets for 2013 and plan their own infrastructure repairs, so please attend your condo meetings.
The Board also had the privilege of presenting a check for more than $2,000
raised from the Run the Shores 5K Fun Run/Walk to Cheryl Tanaka of Cuba Cares,
the Cuba Township Food Pantry. Mike Foster, who organized and chaired this
event, and Joan Bennett did the honors, with David Nelson, Supervisor of Cuba
Township, looking on. Mike acknowledged the help received from Loretta
Peterson, Village Clerk, and Jamie Scheppman, our Lifestyle Director.
The Board also approved a new firm to provide public safety services for LBS
beginning next year. U.S. Security Associates (USSA) is the 3rd largest contract
security agency in the country; has more than 4,200 clients; and provides about
150,000 weekly man hours of service in the residential, condominium, apartment,
and gated community industry. USAA has a state of the art Guest Verification
System which will expedite the visitor entry process.
Your Board began the extensive process of reviewing our public safety services last spring. Management prepared a Request
for Proposal (RFP) with the assistance of the Rules and Regulations Commission and the Board. The RFP was mailed to 15 firms
of which 10 firms attended the bidders’ conference and 7 firms submitted formal bids. The Board narrowed the field to four
firms, including the incumbent, Securitas, and personally interviewed each firm before selecting USAA.
Rose Jurczewski, Wentworth Manager, Kathy Losch, our fantastic artist, and I attended the auction of the horses sponsored by
various Barrington area businesses to benefit the Barrington United Way. Our own David Nelson, Condo 9 resident and Cuba
Township Supervisor, did a superb job as the auctioneer. This fundraising effort will provide the United Way with about $50,000
for use in the Barrington area.
If you have not signed up for the alternate electric provider, there is still time to switch before the higher winter electric rates
kick in. Remember that ComEd will continue to provide us with maintenance and repair services. Almost half of LBS’s units are
now signed up! Since there is no cost to sign up and you can change services to another provider at any time, this is a “winwin”
for residents.
Our Village is presenting a question on the November 6th ballot
asking whether we want to authorize the Village to develop an
alternate electric aggregation program similar to our own
program. We encourage everyone to support this proposal which
will provide us with more opportunities to control our electric
costs.
Please mark your calendar: Veteran’s Day services are being
planned by the LBS Veterans for Sunday, November 11th at
11:00am.
I look forward to seeing you all “around the lake.” If you have any
suggestions, or questions, please send an email to me at
