Winter Tips From the
Management Office
Since the snow season is here, we request
your help and cooperation in making the
snow removal operations run as smoothly
as possible.
The following is an outline for snow
removal for the season:
1. Snowplowing of main streets (Old Barn
Road, Woodview Road, Shoreline Road
and Oak Hill Road) begins when there
is one inch of snow on the ground.
These roads are plowed continuously
during a heavy snowstorm to keep
them open for emergency vehicles.
2. All other roads are plowed when the
main streets are under control.
3. Snow clearing operations of driveways
shall commence within a reasonable
time from the accumulation of 2 or
more inches of snow. Driveways and
parking areas cannot be plowed if they
are blocked with parked vehicles;
hence, it is imperative to remove all
parked vehicles after a snowfall.
4. If, by the middle or late afternoon on a
snowy day, it appears that your street
or driveway has been missed, please
call the Management Office 382-1660
and leave your name, address and specific
complaint. All complaints are then
given to the contractor for correction.
Remember if NONE of the driveways
are done on your street, you can
assume that the contractor has not yet
reached your area and not that you
have been missed. Driveways will not
be started until the streets are clear
and/or under control, especially during
severe weather conditions such as a
blizzard.
5. Ice build-up on driveways, sidewalks
and stoops from gutter run-off might
be a concern in some areas. Please do
not use salt on your sidewalk or stoop
(concrete) as it will cause pitting of the
concrete; and if salt gets into the
shrubs, the shrubs will most likely die.
Use only sand or ice melters designed
for use on concrete. Please use caution
during continual freezing and thawing
of these areas when walking or driving.
6. If you notice any damage during or
after a snow removal operation caused
by the snow removal personnel, please
report these to the Management Office,
64 Old Barn Road, Lake Barrington, IL
60010 in writing, as soon as possible.
Damage reports cannot be accepted
after the end of the contract term.
Helpful Tips That May
Assist in Avoiding Problems This Winter
1. If you have hoses attached to outside
spigots, disconnect them so
the water does not freeze.
2. If you have outside water spigots,
look inside the unit for the shut off
valves. Turn them off—then reopen
the outside spigot and drain any
excess water.
3. Leave inside water faucets drip on
sub-zero days.
4. Units with garages—shut the garage
door(s) in cold weather. Some Units
have water pipes in the slab of the
garage that can freeze. Lube door
locks, also.
5. If you leave on vacation in cold
weather, please leave the heat set
to at least 55 degrees.
6. Please check your smoke detector(s)
and change the battery if necessary.
7. For safety sake, please shovel the
snow leading to the front door of
your Unit.
Pet Portraits
8. At Christmas time, please use
extreme caution with decorative
lights, especially those placed
around windows. Do not overload
circuits. Make it a safe holiday.
9. It’s time to change the furnace filter
of your Unit. This will keep the Unit
cleaner and save money, not to
mention protecting the furnace
from going out and leaving you
with no heat when it is 40 degrees
below.
10. Do not back your car into the
garage of your Unit to warm up the
car in the garage with the garage
door closed. Fumes from the
exhaust must be allowed to escape
from the building.
Thank you in advance for your
continued cooperation. If you have
any questions, please notify the
Management Office at 847-382-1660.
The Holiday season will soon be here. An
impressive gift suggestion is a pet portrait. By
commissioning one of our artists you will
have a very unique keepsake. You will also be
helping The Tower of Hope. This organization
supplies service dogs for the wounded warriors
returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. All
contributions are totally tax deductible. See the red book at the LBS
Recreation Center office for pet portrait photos and current artists.
