12 Landscape November, trees are casting their autumn color concluding a long campaign of seasonal strife. Winter is just around the corner. It is the conclusion of another landscape season; remembered for the mild winter, an early spring and the hot summer, all joined by a long dry spell that continues with sporadic relief. Landscape crews, because of the weather, started early cleaning up the confetti of fallen leaves. Following the final clean-up of the season in the central zone, condos 5, 10, 11, 12 and 13, crews will be spreading bark mulch in the shrub beds and tree rings. Planting crews are completing the approved landscape enhancements—new trees and shrub plantings identified through condo landscape inspections. The arborist, The Care of Trees, was awarded a 5-year contract to continue the tree maintenance program at LBS in September. They have preserved the trees since the midseventies, hired to protect the trees during construction, and they will continue to maintain the community trees through 2017. Currently the crews are working on punch lists from condo inspections and work-order requests for pruning and tree removals. What was predicted to be a mundane season of muddled color actually turned out to be a beautiful fall. The weather having cooled, an early frost and an advanced growing season have combined to reveal the shades of Indian Summer across the countryside. But artists are nothing if not resilient, as proven by the indoor session the rain forced us into on October 3rd and the resulting seeds we planted for our next project. Stephanie Frank led us in a discussion of women on the global scene. Her latest painting of middle-Eastern women inspired us to begin developing paintings of our own that reflect the endurance, accomplishments, and universal sufferings and joys of women in this world. We hope our eventual exhibit will both reflect the strength of women and be an inspiration to all who view it. Do you have a dog, cat or horse that you would like to have painted by a professional artist? Are you aware of the need for trained dogs to help veteran amputees live a better life? If so, please consider consigning one of the artists involved in our fund raiser for The Tower of Hope that we are holding in conjunction with the LBS Veteran’s organization. LBS Ladies 18 Hole Golf League JULY 17TH—RALLY FOR LIFE Our fundraising tournament was held to support Wellness Place. We raised over $700 for the cause. Thanks to everyone who participated and Kathy Cassert for organizing and supplying the prizes.
