BULLETS
Hornady’s traditional line of bullets includes
all-time favorites in Varmint Bullets, Hunting
Bullets and Full Metal Jacket Bullets.
With the exception of our FMJ and Varmint Bullets, the traditional line of bullets
features exposed lead tips for controlled expansion and hard-hitting terminal
performance. Most have our pioneering secant ogive design – one of the most
ballistically efficient profiles ever developed by Hornady engineers (see below).
And, most feature our exclusive InterLock design – a raised ring inside the
jacket that is embedded in the bullet’s core that keeps the core and jacket
locked together during expansion to retain mass and energy.
The round nose and flat point bullets are for use in guns with a tubular magazine,
and their profile helps guard against unwanted discharge in firearms with
tube feed magazines.
Our Full Metal Jacket bullets serve two purposes. The large diameter FMJ-RN
(round nose) bullets are designed for hunting the world’s toughest and most
dangerous game – delivering deep, bone-shattering penetration. The other
FMJ design replicates the bullets used in military “ball” ammunition. They also
are good for hunting animals when minimum pelt damage is important.
Douglas Warner was able to take this
bull elephant on his latest African safari,
shooting our Hornady 500 gr. solid with his
Browning Safari FN 458 Winchester Mag.
The elephant carried 51 and 53 pound tusks.
SECANT OGIVE DESIGN
Pioneered by Hornady for use in hunting
bullets, this technology broke new
Head
Height
Tangent
ground in ballistic engineering and is
Secant Ogive
now used in bullets for everything from
match to varmint shooting.
The secant ogive is a geometrically
developed design that creates the
most ballistically efficient profile, yet
retains the optimum bearing surface.
Peter Langam is still an active hunter
at age 73, and was recently asked by a
landowner to help eliminate a group
of domestic goats that had gone feral.
Shooting a handload of his favorite
Hornady 150 gr. RN, Peter was able to
The combination of the slender point
drop five goats from 100 to 150 yards.
and increased bearing surface results
in lower drag, increased stability, flatter
trajectories and amazing accuracy.
