Visitation Mission Statement 

Visitation Parish, a Roman Catholic Community in the Diocese of Joliet-in- 

Illinois, seeks to draw all to Jesus Christ, revelation of the Father and font of the 

Holy Spirit, by celebrating the Sacraments, educating people of all ages in the 

Truths of the Catholic Faith, and reaching out to those who are physically, emotionally 

or spiritually in need.

Attend our Welcoming Coffee on the 

last Sunday of every month after the 

10:00 A.M. Mass to register, learn 

about our ministries and programs 

and meet our priests and some of our 

parish family. 

Baptisms 

Will be every Sunday at 1:00 P.M. 

Parents are required to take 

Baptismal Class beforehand. 

Classes are held every other 

month, so please plan ahead. Call 

Rectory for information. 

Marriages 

Arrangements must be made at the 

Rectory at least six months in advance. 

Please contact the church before making 

any other arrangements. Weddings 

scheduled at 12:00 & 2:00 P.M. on 

Saturday. NO Sunday Weddings. 

Funerals 

It is the responsibility of the parish to 

bury their dead. The funeral director 

will contact the parish regarding 

arrangements. No specific offering is 

required for the parish in connection 

with the funeral liturgy. 

Perpetual Adoration Chapel 

The Perpetual Adoration Chapel of 

Our Lady, Mother of the Eucharist, is 

available 24 hours a day for private 

prayer and adoration of the Blessed 

Sacrament, exposed on the Altar. The 

Chapel is located in the Convent building 

(south of the church). 

Novena in Honor of Saint 

Peregrine 

Devotions in honor of Saint Peregrine, 

the patron saint of those who suffer 

with cancer will be held the third 

Tuesday of every month at 7:00 P.M. in 

the church. 

Visits to the Sick 

Because of changes in hospital admitting 

policies, it is necessary to inform 

the Rectory when hospitalized parishioners 

would like a visit from a priest 

or deacon. Catholic chaplains are 

assigned to area hospitals to administer 

the Sacraments. Visitation parish 

priests visit Elmhurst Hospital twice a 

week on Tuesdays and Fridays.

on Thursday, March 23, at 7:00 P.M. in Podesta Hall. Representatives from the Campaign Prep Steering Committee along with our campaign

Ash Wednesday, March 1 

Masses—6:15, 8:15 A.M., NOON, 5:00 and 7:00 P.M. 

Weekday Masses 

One of the best ways to enter into the Lenten Season is to participate in daily Mass. Weekday Mass is 

celebrated at 6:15 and 8:15 A.M., Monday—Friday, and at 8:15 A.M. on Saturday. The Scripture readings 

for each of the Lenten Masses were specially chosen to provide a lesson on the spiritual life. If you 

are unable to attend daily Mass, take some time to reflect on these readings. They are listed in the bulletin 

each week. 

Stations of the Cross 

The Stations of the Cross will be prayed on Wednesdays at 1:45 P.M. (with the school children) and on 

Fridays at 7:00 P.M., followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. A booklet with meditations on 

the Way of the Cross, composed by Pope Benedict XVI, is available in the church bookracks for private 

prayer. A plenary indulgence is granted to those who make the Way of the Cross, under the usual 

conditions. Confessions will be heard on Fridays at 6:30 P.M. before Stations. 

Adoration Chapel 

The Adoration Chapel is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for quiet prayer and meditation. 

Operation Rice Bowl 

In the spirit of Lenten almsgiving, rice bowls will be available at the entrances to the church. By donating 

the proceeds from our Lenten acts of self-denial, we strive to follow the Lord’s command to care for 

our less fortunate sisters and brothers. 

The Sacrament of Reconciliation 

Lent is the primary season of reconciliation in the Church year and everyone is encouraged to receive 

this Sacrament during this time. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated each Saturday from 4:00 

–5:00 P.M., on Fridays of Lent (excluding Good Friday) at 6:30 P.M. before the Stations of the Cross, 

and on the Sundays of Lent, after the 7:00 A.M. Mass and 20 minutes before the 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30 

A.M. Masses.

A special Lenten Catholic Update is included in today’s bulletin. It provides a reflection for each day 

of Lent.

Lenten Regulations 

Fasting: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast. This binds all Catholics between the ages 

of 21 and 59. On days of fast, one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient 

to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, but together they should not equal another 

full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, although liquids, including milk and fruit juices, 

are allowed. When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. 

Abstinence: Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence for 

those over the age of 14. On these days, no meat is allowed. 

To disregard completely the law of fast and abstinence is seriously sinful. 

Lenten Meal Prayer 

Lord Jesus Christ, may our Lenten fasting turn us toward all our brothers and sisters who are in need. 

Bless this table, our food and ourselves. Send us through Lent with good cheer, and bring us quickly to 

your passover. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Several of our weekly sales have slipped seriously since the 

huge Christmas season. It is important to remind our participants 

that the cut-off for earned tuition credit for the current 

school year will be at the close of business on April 21. 

Certificate sales after this date will have earned tuition credit 

accumulated toward the next school year. Please plan accordingly. 

Remember that new participants are welcome to begin 

earning tuition credit at any time. Anyone interested should stop 

in at one of our Walk-in Services and find out how easy it is to

Great Adventure Bible Study 

On March 1, the “Great 

Adventure Bible Study” will begin 

the study of the New Testament with 

the Gospel of St. Luke. There will be 

seven sessions, including the Acts of 

the Apostles. 

Even if you have not been participating 

in this fine program authored by Jeff Cavins of EWTN 

fame, you are welcome to attend these meetings on the New 

Testament. Study questions and guides will be available. 

The sessions are held every Wednesday from 12:30 to 2:30 P.M.

Lent is the perfect opportunity to return to our Lord with all

Let's listen to the wisdom of St. Augustine. He said that our 

Lord is so merciful that He actually shakes with happiness in

hard to believe, but it’s the truth. The fact is, our Lord wants 

us to visit Him often. He even wants us to come in to see Him 

if we happen to be in the state of sin. It’s incredible, but again, 

that’s the truth! God even likes to hear the sinner’s prayer! Of 

course, He does not condone sin, but He works on attracting 

the sinner back to Himself. Yes, God wants to win sinners back 

to Himself.

Five First Saturday Devotion Reminder 

The next first Saturday of the month 

is March 4. Please come and accept the 

graces which Our Lady wishes to give 

to those who complete the Five First 

Saturdays devotion. Our Lady revealed 

to Sister Lucia (one of the seers of 

Fatima) the promise of the Five First Saturdays. 

I promise, at the hour of death, to help with the graces needed 

for salvation, whoever on the First Saturday of five consecutive 

months shall: 

• Confess and receive Holy Communion 

• Recite five decades of the Rosary 

• And keep me company for fifteen minutes while 

meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary 

with the intention of making reparation to me. 

We will honor Our Lady of Fatima’s wishes as we celebrate 

the first Saturday devotion on March 4. The devotion 

begins with the 8:15 A.M. Mass. We then move to a fifteen 

minute guided meditation on the Mysteries of the Most Holy 

Rosary and the recitation of the Rosary. At the conclusion, we 

recite the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Sacramental 

confessions are heard on Saturday afternoons from 4:00–5:00 

P.M. and on Tuesday mornings from 10:00 A.M. until noon in 

the Church. Confessions may be made one week before or 

after the First Saturday of the month. 

Adult Bible Study 

The next meeting of the Evening Bible Study is this 

Tuesday, February 28, 2006. Chapters 3 and 4 of the 

Acts of the Apostles will be covered. Meetings are at 

7:30 P.M. in Madonna Hall. All are welcome. Bring
