A Touch of Gold
My inspiration for this painting was
the golden yellow poppies which I felt
inclined to depict from their first budlike
formation, through the unfolding
process into fully opened flower heads,
eventually reaching a finality in a spent
pod with its own beauty. To further
emphasise this transitional process I
chose to begin my piece in graphite
until developing it through to full colour,
set on an off-centred coloured grid as a
backdrop. This off-centred background
is counter balanced by the largely
uncoloured graphite poppy image on
the right side leading the eye into the
composition – enhanced by a circular
movement created by the bottom
leaf outside the internal frame which
connects the eye to this graphite image.
An evolution both of the formation of
the flower and the drawing/painting
process of my piece.
These Boots Were Made
For Working
A play on the theme “these boots
were made for walking”.
My boots depict a working variety
that have seen many hours of duty.
So many hours they have created
a character and personality of
their own. The vignette style of
presentation emphasises the subject
matter – the working boots, rendered
in complimentary blues and siennas.
An everyday subject with a story
to tell.
