Advisory Board Brigid Shea Principal, Carbon Shrinks and Brigid Shea & Associates Brigid Shea is an expert communicator and advocate of environmental policies that make a difference. A former award- winning journalist, environmental organizer and elected official, she has specialized in developing and implementing effective environmental policies since 1988. She is the principal of two environmental consulting firms, Carbon Shrinks and Brigid Shea & Associates, and she advises heavy industry, corporations, governments and non-profits. She is a certified carbon reduction manager, frequent public speaker and trainer. Laura Huffman Texas State Director, The Nature Conservancy Laura is one of the Conservancy’s most trusted national voices. She heads a team whose work helps to protect the integrity of some of Texas’ most iconic natural places. With over 20 years of public policy experience, during her tenure the Conservancy has safeguarded important habitat for some of the state’s most threatened species, led efforts in the Texas legislature to protect freshwater resources and is a leader in restoration efforts in the Gulf of Mexico. Dr. John Spengler Professor of Environmental Health and Human Habitation, Harvard School of Public Health Tommy Armour Music Director, Earth Day Dallas, Inc. Tommy is currently the music director for Earth Day Dallas, a two-day environmental festival held at Fair Park in Dallas, TX. The inaugural event in 2011 featured over 250 exhibitors and 48,000 attendees making it the second largest Earth Day festival in the country. He spent the early part of his career as a manager for his father, PGA Tour professional golfer Tommy Armour III. Lucia Athens Chief Sustainability Officer, City of Austin Lucia has served as a leader in the green building movement for two decades. She is a licensed landscape architect as well as author of the book, Building an Emerald City: A Guide to Creating Green Building Policies, published in 2010 by Island Press. She began her career in green building in the early 1990s, working on the development team for the City of Austin’s Green Builder program, the first such program in the United States. Jean Brittingham Founder, SmartGirls Way / Brittingham Partners Jean Brittingham, founder of SmartGirls Way and Brittingham Partners, is fueled by her creativity, intuition and passion. Jean established the SmartGirls Way and began creating the content to help rapidly scale the women’s entrepreneurial movement that will form the critical base for the next economy. Prior to starting SmartGirls Way, Jean worked with a diverse client group that included Fortune 100 companies, innovative start-ups, local and national governments and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). John Spengler is the Akira Yamaguchi professor of Environmental Health and Human Habitation at the Harvard School of Public Health, and director of the Sustainability and Environmental Management <strong>Program</strong> at the Harvard Extension School. He was the lead faculty for the Harvard Green Campus Initiative. Spengler chaired the National Research Council’s committee on “Green Schools: Attributes for Health and Learning”, and more recently chaired the National Academies’ Institute of Medicine committee on “Effect of Climate Change on Indoor Air Quality and Public Health.” Tom Brookes Director, European Climate Foundation Energy Strategy Center Tom is the head of the European Climate Foundation’s communications unit. The unit acts as a center of expertise on energy and climate change communications. It works to create political, media and public endorsement for strong action to address climate change at international, national and sectoral levels. Prior to joining the ECF, Tom worked as a journalist, covering technology, regulation and broader European politics. He then moved into public affairs and media relations in the late 90s.
