STAR PLAYER | STAR SEARCH STAR PLAYER OF THE YEAR & R.O. SHEARMAN MEDAL Sheedy and Allan share Star Player Award Sturt’s Jade Sheedy and North Adelaide’s James Allan have been named this year’s Star Players of the Year and R.O. Shearman Medallists. Sheedy and Allan finished the season tied on 37 votes after the three Mystery Round votes were tallied last week. It is the second consecutive year Allan has won the R.O. Shearman Medal. Judged by members of the SANFL’s 200 Club on a 5-4-3- 2-1 basis for every minor round match, the award carries with it a $3000 first prize. Sheedy and Allan were formally presented their joint R.O. Shearman Medals at the Magarey Medal presentation last Thursday. South’s James Boyd wins Coca-Cola Star Search Award South Adelaide’s James Boyd has beaten a remarkable field of young talent to take out this year’s Coca Cola Star Search award. The 19-year-old rover has played every League game this season and has impressed supporters and Star Search selectors alike with his tenacity and on-field skills. The second-year apprentice carpenter rated the Anzac Day game and his match-up against his football idol – Central’s James Gowans - as highlights of his 2008 season. SANFL State League Competition general manager and Star Search selection panellist Glen Rosser said a number of talented players were Jade Sheedy James Allan STAR SEARCH AWARD James Boyd recognised through the weekly awards but conceded Boyd had been a stand-out performer. Coca Cola state manager Peter Carey also congratulated Boyd on the award. “We’ve got a long history of being involved with SA footy of more than 20 years and the Coca Cola Star Search award is an extension of that. “James has had a fantastic year and is a very worthy winner of the award.” Boyd was formally presented with his award at the Magarey Medal count on Thursday.
