Sensor Node
Crossbow’s sensor nodes provide proven
wireless technology and a comprehensive
sensor suite in a fully integrated,
battery-operated unit with indoor
packaging. The integrated sensor board
uses energy-efficient digital sensors for
extended battery life and performance
including a dual-axis accelerometer,
barometric pressure, ambient light,
and relative humidity and temperature
sensors.
The nodes integrate a processor/radio
board and antenna that are powered by
two AA batteries. The SN24040 node
provides a direct sequence spread spectrum
radio (DSSS) supporting the 2.4
GHz global ISM band. The SN9040 node
includes a frequency shift key radio (FSK)
supporting the 868/916 MHz
frequency band.
The sensor nodes come preprogrammed
and configured with Crossbow’s reliable,
ad-hoc, low-power mesh networking
software (XMesh). This provides
plug-and-play network scalability for
Crossbow’s wireless sensor network
Starter and Professional Kits.
The MoteView application for
Windows-based PCs provides an
intuitive graphical user interface to
visualize the sensor data received from
the sensor node and manage the
wireless sensor network. MoteView
is available for free download from
Crossbow’s web site.
Advanced Users
The sensor node’s processor/radio
boards are fully programmable and
supported by Crossbow’s MoteWorks
software platform. MoteWorks
enables the development of custom
sensor applications that are optimized
for low-power, battery operated,
ad-hoc mesh networks.
Over-the-air-programming (OTAP)
allows the sensor nodes to be
updated with new firmware and
applications without having to open
the package or connect a
programming cable. Over-the-airprogramming
provides for low-cost
maintenance during deployment,
especially for sensor nodes that are
placed in remote locations.
* FCC/CE certified for 2.4 GHz. Certification pending for 868/916 MHz.
