We are an ambitious, dynamic and friendly law<br />
school delivering a first class legal education,<br />
<strong>of</strong>fering some <strong>of</strong> the most sought after law<br />
programmes in the country. Our portfolio<br />
<strong>of</strong> degrees and extracurricular activities<br />
include mooting, pro bono work, study<br />
tours and work placements. These provide<br />

outstanding reputation internationally for our<br />
research, with exciting prospects in human<br />
rights, international law, intellectual property,<br />
legal history, family law and European law.<br />
We <strong>of</strong>fer a dynamic environment in which to<br />
study and attract an increasing number <strong>of</strong><br />
students from a range <strong>of</strong> countries globally –<br />
we have substantial numbers <strong>of</strong> students from<br />
the Middle East and the Gulf, South East and<br />
East Asia, and a large proportion from Africa<br />
and Europe.<br />
The Law School has an international<br />
reputation for excellence in research with<br />
leading centres in family law and legal history,<br />
and a long standing reputation for European<br />
law. Our research in human rights and<br />
international law has an exciting and highly<br />
topical focus, while intellectual property<br />
is now developing a strong identity within<br />
the School. Underlying this scholarship<br />
and cutting edge research is a commitment<br />
to making the outcomes <strong>of</strong> our research<br />
beneficial and accessible to the public, the legal<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>ession and the government. We aim to<br />
develop and promote areas <strong>of</strong> research activity<br />
that are <strong>of</strong> significant impact in influencing<br />
policy, legislation, regulatory frameworks,<br />
legal process, theoretical parameters and an<br />
historical understanding <strong>of</strong> the implications<br />
<strong>of</strong> law.<br />

FACIlities<br />
We are based on the <strong>University</strong>’s campus<br />
in E<strong>xeter</strong> and have a presence in Cornwall.<br />
<strong>Postgraduate</strong>s have access to extensive<br />
online services including all <strong>of</strong>ficial European<br />
databases, such as Eur-Lex. There is also a<br />
purpose-built Moot Room, equipped with the<br />
latest audio-visual facilities and seating for<br />
250 people.<br />
RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS<br />
• Experts from four leading universities in the South West and Wales are collaborating to become the authoritative<br />
voice on the emotive areas <strong>of</strong> family law and policy. Led by Pr<strong>of</strong>essors Anne Barlow and Liz Trinder, the new Network<br />
on Family, Regulation and Society is funded by the ESRC, AHRC, Nuffield and the Family Bar Association and aims to<br />
produce high quality research and pool expertise in areas such as child protection, family justice issues, cohabitation and<br />
the effects <strong>of</strong> separation and divorce on children.<br />
• Within the Centre for Legal History Research, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Chantal Stebbings is working on a major research project funded<br />
by the Wellcome Trust, examining the relationship between the development <strong>of</strong> tax law and the formation <strong>of</strong> the<br />
modern pharmacy pr<strong>of</strong>ession.<br />
• Dr Michael Addo’s research strengths lie in the fields <strong>of</strong> public international law and international human rights. His<br />
latest book The Legal Nature <strong>of</strong> International Human Rights pioneers an evidence-based approach to researching in this<br />
field. This theme continues in his current research which explores the legal implications <strong>of</strong> cultural diversity and the<br />
universal respect for human rights.
