Visiting Assistant Professor/Instructor Marine Biology The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey is seeking to fill a one year non-tenure track position, at the Assistant Professor or Instructor level, in the area of Marine Science with a specialization in Marine Biology starting September 1, 2010. There is the possibility that this position can lead to a tenure track position effective September 1, 2011. The candidate should be qualified to teach Marine Botany and Ecology as well as develop a general education science course. Stockton is ranked among the top ten small masters institutions in the northeast. Stockton is New Jersey’s “Green College” and is located in Pomona, New Jersey about 20 minutes from Atlantic City. In addition, it operates four small research vessels at its well equipped Nacote Creek Marine and Environmental Science Field Station 10 minutes from campus. The College has a diverse array of undergraduate programs and new Master’s degrees in the Sciences. It provides vast opportunities for interdisciplinary academic and scholarly development in the sciences and mathematics. SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY Department of Geography PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY: LANDSCAPE ECOLOGY The Department of Geography at Simon Fraser University invites applications for a tenure track faculty appointment in landscape ecology/biogeography. We seek a scientist with interests in ecological/biogeographical processes and patterns, and modeling such processes and patterns across a range of landscape scales from local to global, including the role of human-environment interactions. Links to other branches of physical geography/earth system science are desirable. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will ideally begin September 1, 2010. Applicants must have completed a PhD by the time of appointment and should demonstrate a promise of excellence in research and effectiveness in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels in a Physical Geography Program. Prime teaching responsibilities will be to instruct undergraduate courses in biogeography and landscape ecology in the undergraduate programs of Physical Geography and Environmental Science (which includes developing an applied biological conservation stream) plus related graduate courses, and to provide research direction and graduate supervision in landscape ecology and biogeography. Ability to instruct in other undergraduate courses in the Physical Geography Program is an asset. The successful candidate(s) will join a multi-disciplinary team of investigators undertaking a broad, integrated field experimental study to assess the response of northern peatland ecosystems to increases in temperature and exposures to elevated atmospheric CO 2 concentrations. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. with experience in one or more of the following disciplines: plant physiological ecology, biogeochemistry, peatland hydrology, methane cycling in high-carbon ecosystems, or global change ecology in general. Prior experience with experimental field ecological research and associated laboratory analytical and measurement approaches (including stable isotopic approaches for the interpretation of biological processes and mechanisms) and an appreciation of data-model interactions is highly desirable. Ability to work as a part of a team and be comfortable in a multi-disciplinary environment is critical. The successful candidate(s) will have a proven record of turning research into high-quality journal publications.
