The Wilderness Society is seek<strong>in</strong>g a full-time<br />

Hydrologist/Climate<br />

Change Analyst<br />

to work on model<strong>in</strong>g water resource availability <strong>and</strong> climate<br />

change scenarios for Alaska’s wildl<strong>and</strong>s. This position is<br />

located <strong>in</strong> Anchorage, AK <strong>and</strong> currently funded for a 1 year<br />

term, with high likelihood of extension.<br />

Qualifications:<br />

• Education <strong>and</strong>/or tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Hydrology, <strong>Ecology</strong> <strong>and</strong>/or<br />

Climate Model<strong>in</strong>g. MS degree required; PhD preferred.<br />

• Ability to design <strong>and</strong> lead analyses of climate change on<br />

precipitation, potential evapotranspiration <strong>and</strong> water<br />

storage <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Arctic <strong>and</strong> Alaska statewide. Ability to<br />

ga<strong>the</strong>r data from diverse sources <strong>and</strong> syn<strong>the</strong>size summaries<br />

of historical climate <strong>and</strong> hydrologic parameters.<br />

• Experience with ArcGIS, manag<strong>in</strong>g large datasets, document<br />

preparation <strong>in</strong> Word, <strong>and</strong> statistical analyses required.<br />

Familiarity with R <strong>and</strong>/or climate model<strong>in</strong>g data preferred.<br />

The Wilderness Society is seek<strong>in</strong>g a full-time<br />

Spatial Ecologist<br />

to contribute to develop<strong>in</strong>g analytical methods that exp<strong>and</strong> our<br />

underst<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g of <strong>the</strong> impacts of human activity, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g energy<br />

development, <strong>and</strong> climate change on Arctic ecosystems.<br />

Ecologist will lead development of analyses aimed at underst<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

impacts to wildlife habitat, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g l<strong>and</strong>cover/habitat<br />

change <strong>and</strong> connectivity, resource selection by Arctic species,<br />

<strong>and</strong>/or population viability. This position is currently funded for a<br />

period of 2 years <strong>and</strong> is located <strong>in</strong> our Anchorage Office with<br />

substantial travel to Fairbanks.<br />

Qualifications:<br />

• PhD with research experience <strong>in</strong> l<strong>and</strong>scape/vegetation<br />

change, wildlife resource/habitat selection, population viability<br />

model<strong>in</strong>g or o<strong>the</strong>r spatial ecological model<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

• Experience with one or more of <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g types of analyses:<br />

l<strong>and</strong>cover change, resource selection, population viability,<br />

<strong>and</strong>/or disturbance model<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

• Demonstrated proficiency with simulation model<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong><br />

software used to describe population or l<strong>and</strong>scape dynamics<br />

<strong>and</strong> statistical analyses.<br />
